I found this in the TK in the CU FAQ v.0.12 (sticky)

How much do we get? Will it compare to the armour other professions get?

We get +20 at novice & by the time we reach Master we have +60. Compered to other armour this works out at been 6000 Armour againest everything, which roughly works out at a 48% reduction in damage.

I have heard that 6000 armor is the best rating you can get. If Innate Armor is equivalent to 6000 - then don't bother getting armor...

As for the COB - no, I was playing around with intimidate (worked well) and warcry (didn't seem to work).

More testing tonight...

I'm not sure that the 1:100 ratio of IA effectiveness to Armor effectiveness is correct at the moment. I'm hoping that was the intent and they get it fixed

Just to let you guys know.. I did a bit of testing and this is what I found out.

With +60 innate my armor absorbed about 48-51% of damage (ranged and melee)

When I equipped a ranged weapon (rifle), I absorbed the same % of damage.. but took a small (around 1%) damage increase.

When I dueled my friend who was MBH with assault armor on (claimed it wasnt his best, but difference I doubt would be much different), he absorbed about 20-22% of my melee attacks.. and about 40-46% of ranged (depending on if he put on riposte).

hope this helps.

Make sure you are using Improved Center of Being if you have it. It adds 500 Defense to ranged and meleefor 45 Seconds.

To put this into perspective-

Last night in my group we were fighting level 80Pikets on Dantooine, I am Level 72 currently (TKM, Pikeman 4334). I was taking 320 Damage from the Pikets per hit, without CoB on. Keep in mind they are 8 levels above me and thus have increased damage when they hit me as well.

So, I used Improved Center of being, and instantly they are only doing 86 damage to meinstead of the 320 they were doing previously. TKM combined with pikes makes an excellent combo, Allowing me to Stun and Intimidate the enemies, lowering the damage down to around 65 per hit on me.

TK is a tank, which is why we have the Improved Center of Being, which highly mitigates damage against us for 45 seconds- But its sometimes hard to put up in combat because if you get hit during the wind-up time for it (about 3 seconds) you have to use it again because it can be interrupted. You also must not be moving when you use it as movement will cancel the windup as well

Thats where the Tank part of TK comes into play is with the center of being.

Thats why BH also is listed as a tank, as ithas its "Duelist Stance" which adds 150 defense to them, lowering much of the damage they take, but nowhere near as powerful as TK- Although the TK should be a much more effective tank, because they have to be right up in the fray next to enemies.

And a suggestion- pick up some instant Stimpack D's from a BE, the ones that heal for about 1200- Those are essential to your tanking ability, allowing quick heals should your center fall and you have trouble getting it back up.

I have the same question - tried padded, bone and innate and innate seemed the best - but it was not a very scientific study. I just went to a lair and tried beating on quenkers with and without armor.

I am not sure, but my damage regen seemed faster without armor (just like armor encumbrance used to do). Can anyone confirm this?

There may be some well crafted armor that is better than Innate - it really depends on what you may find. Innate so far seems to be pretty good stuff though - so you may not want to waste your time trying to find something better. I have a padded set that is rated in the 4300+ area that seems to be just a little bit better - ymmv.

Is there any confirmation on the effectiveness of innate using a ranged weapon? TKA supposedly is a great tank, but so far it doesnt seem to do much better than other melee professions.

I ama TKM, Master Brawler, and I think I can /respec Swordsman to 4402. That should be decent solo ability (5 defense, 5 offense, 1 crowd control). I have a few points trained in FS skills, and I should be able to get Novice Artisan (for surveying, my source of income), and Novice Medic (to reduce downtime). This will give me enough points to Master Swordsman. I will eventually have to drop artisan when I get more FS points, but I think that will be a good path for my FS grind. My alt character (if I ever get it) will be more tradeskill based. I am hoping staying with a melee combo doesn't hurt me too much, but I think it will be ok for PvE.
