Thread: Make the CU Work for You

1. Skills from different melee classes can be used while armed or unarmed.

Seriously. If you're a Pikeman you get some area attacks (including area KD), intimidate and warcry, etc. With Fencer you have DoT bleed, blind, a root attack, etc. And you can use those skills with any melee weapon, VK or unarmed. Get it? Skills for melee profs are useable for any melee attack, armed or not. A skill from Swordsman works with a polearm. Have a bleed attack from Fencer? Use it while you're unarmed if you want.

You get to pick and chose your particular set of specials. However, ranged skills cannot be used while unarmed or with a melee weapon in hand.

2. Bonuses like melee defense, ranged defense, etc. stack between professions.

For all the talk about making professions distinct, there's been no talk I'm aware of about how our personal skill templates are so deliciously customizable under the CU, specifically because the skills of different professions in the same general class (melee or range) are useable by any profession within that class.

TK purists took ithard, that's for sure. But for those in our community who were intersted in a Shaolin Kung Fu-ish TK-centeric POI, you might be able to accept the multiple disciplines of unarmed and melee weapon combat as MORE realistic than TK alone.

For those who wanted elite elite trees which could be cherry-picked for different thematic specials, you may think of the interprofession skills as at least similar to that idea. Even though it is not elite elite, you can cherry-pick status effect skills to have a character who specializes in KDs, dizzys, stuns, roots, etc.or one who specializes in defense by picking up all the status recovery skills, improved CoB (almost always works), stack defensive bonuses, etc.

Like unarmed, unarmored? Don't need em.

Like arms and armor? You got it with non-TK profs.

Right now there's still a feeling that TK's are very poor in dealing damage, and that's true. But YOUR TK doesn't have to be at a loss for damage dealing and a great variety of specials if you make the CU work for you.

One for the Masters

Where are the red streaks in the Dathomir night,

lighting up witches and rancors on Singing Mountain?

Where are the dervish rogues who fearless roamed?

They have climbedpeak and caldera crossed -

shadows on the ghost of Palawa.

The Teräs Käsi are dead. Long live the fighters.

Just noticed some other posts saying the same things popping up. Good.

Good post, following that way myself. Now that I'm a TKM/Master Swordsman/Novice Fencer, all my specials work wonderfully with a powerhammer, and I can even use the Swordsman Improved Area Taunt, Improved Critical Strike, Improved Armor Break, and Improved Power Attack to be devastating on damage, even unarmed, besides being unarmored. I'm a tank who can take damage and dish it out too.
