Thread: Q3PO Thanks for showing me the light.
I'm going to quit the TKA profession and go Pistol / CH.
I'll play my pokemon and stand back 60 meters popping everything with my pistol.
That is until WoW comes out. Then you'll see my SWG on ebay or playerauctions or whereever.
I want to thank most of you TKA members for help along the way. I just can'ttake stand it anymore.
I know, when you spend SO much time on a proffession just be told, "Well, I know its just as hard, if not harder to advance in a melee proffession than a ranged proffession, but you know, We basically dont care, and if you want to have more combat effectivenessthan a Chef you need to pick up a blaster."
Well, At least i have an assload of Combat xp to spare, ill be instant master ranged support.
There idea of balance has major flaws.
1. At ranged, Ranged will win. However, there is NO way for a melee to close on a ranged, so every fight a ranged will win. There is very little penalty for some riflemen to run around faceing backwards popping shots off one handed. You should NOT be able to hit with a ranged weapon like this.
2. Up close, the chance of melee winning against a pistoleer, is still at best 50/50, becuase of abilities like pistol whip, Why be melee, when you can be melee and ranged with one proffession.
3. If somewhere, somehow a melee manages to close to the combat range with a ranged, he still cannot attack until the ranged is kind enough to completely stop so the melee will be able to attack. (Tackle someone while running?, swing a sword while running? stab someone with a pike while running? these must all be completely foreign concepts to the devs)
Who knows, maybe later we will get something to help us out but for the meantime like it or lump it, it is in their vision for melee to lose to a ranged attacker, and why not?
They have stated it now as a fact, so if you don't want to be kited, sorry, melee isnt for you.
Just like crafting isn't for some people, melee is a different combat class to ranged, and thats now it is.
It does not suprise me that the Devs post had no content.
Just look at this game they have been making for the last 3 years

Yeah, quit the profession. I hate it when people have the gall to complain when their class isn't working well. You're lucky SOE LETS you play! They could just take your $15/month and set your PC on fire! Whatever you do, don't complain, they might accidentally fix someone. What are you, a n00b?
The class is working well, my sarcastic friend. Just not the way you want it to.
Just like bounty hunters want more power, pistoleers want to be like bounty hunters and creature handlers want to control krayt dragons.
That's not how it works, just because you don't like it doesn't mean its broken.
I deserve that for posting like an arse. But, I do disagree with you completely on what's working well, and what is broken. I don't believe being allowed to attack on the run, or to be given some way to close distance with a ranged attacker is equivilant to a CH with a pet Krayt named "Pikachu". I disagree that any of the melee based professions are working particularly well.
But, as you said, opinions
We need more definitive issues if we want the devs to fix our 'issues'. To be honest I was disappointed by our top 5 list, aside from the HAM special costs.
Devs, if you read this -- I understand and respect what you say by "Ranged users will own you at ranged". Cut us melee some slack! IF by some good fortune we get a ranged class into our domain, we should NOT kill ourselves in the process. We should be able to utterly destroy them without destroying ourselves in the process.
Our specials should cost LESS than ranged users to compensate for our shortcomings. Decrease our HAM costs, and at least we can perform a few specials by the time our blasted bodies pull a ranged user into our domain.
The problem isn't the ham cost per say, its the ham penalty on knucklers, which according to the new patch is possible to experiment all them away.
This will probly slow us down a tad and perhaps lower damage slightly, but it means we can use more than one special, very good.
However a special cost with bare hands still isn't in line with a pistol shot which does the same damage from a greater range.
Quite important in the long run.

Thats my favorite Atari2600 and until now I thought I was the only one that even heard of it.
To yars, as the other person above me stated, they are looking into the range thing and I would imagine its getting some attention because 2 professions commented on it.
Also experimenting away penalties will also lower ranged users ham costs so that argument is moot, wish I thought ahead more =P
