Thread: How to get TKA: A newbies guide
I dont write many things on the boards. But I have experience in the game and I know what Im talking about. (at least based off my own experiences) Because this is based off of me I dont expect everything here to work for you. This is intended for people who arent going to be in groups very often and just soloing most of the time.
Ill ask you all not to flame me.This is my first attempt at any guide, andit may not be the best of guides, but Im trying to do my best to help other people.
With that all said, lets begin the guide:
Find a nice starter planet to go to. Personally I picked Tattooine. Theres lots of little critters running about there, just like every other planet, but I guess ive grown fond of it. Other starting places to mention are:
Keren, Naboo
Coronet, Corellia
1.)Before starting off:
Before you head out on your journey youll need a couple of things. As I said before this is for newbies who dont have the luxury of wealth and friends to group with. Youll need these three things before you even start your way up the unarmed tree:
Novice Medic
A Rock Beetle
A Vibroknuckler
Now because this guide is for newbies I will explain each of these items for you
Novice Medic will allow you to heal yourself in battle. This is a must since you will be soloing and wont have the luxury of a medic to help you, so become your own medic. At Novice Medic you can use stim b's. These are usually available at the bazaar ranging in price from 500-1500 (usually). Not all stim b's are the same though, some are much more powerful than others. You might have to search for good stim b's but in reality any will work.
A Rock Beetle will be your tank and your guide to more XP if you group it. Send your rock beetle into battle before you attack and you wont get hit by those pesky mobs. You can buy these from a creature handler ranging from 3-7k.
Lastly youll need a Vibroknuckler. Even though novice brawler does not have a certification for these you should get them and use them anyway. Why? For the speed bonus. You will hit at least 3 times faster with them eqipped. For the not so wealthy you can buy cheap ones at the bazaar for 3k. If you are in a small amount of wealth you can buy better ones for about 10k. The mod you want is speed. Get a vibroknuckler that is 1.8 speed or lower.
2.) Getting XP: The Unarmed Tree
Unarmed 1:
Start running around outside of your town and kill anything that moves. These beginning creatures will give you the xp you need for unarmed 2 in just a few minutes.
Unarmed 2:
Do the exact thing for unarmed 1 itll just take a little longer because you need more xp.
Unarmed 3:
If you are on Tattooine as I suggested then you should pull out your rock beetle, group it, and start doing "Diseased Bocatt" missions. These mobs do agro so youll want to be sure to send in your pet first to tank. Youll get decent xp from them and you shouldnt have any problems getting the 15k xp you need for unarmed 3.
Unarmed 4:
This is what separates the patient people from the impatient ones. At 70k xp for this skill it can be quite a hassle. Personally I kept doing the diseased bocatt missions. It was good money for my level and the xp stayed the same. I was however able to kill them faster. Berserk is your favorite skill here. The damage bonus will make killing go a lot faster. If you get bored doing this and feel brave you can try doing syck lairs. At your level it will be almost impossible to get them to spawn from mission terminals. But if you move around right outside Anchorhead on Tattooine heading towards Wayfar youll find a couple. Or you can try your luck outside Mos Taike hunting Dune Banthas. Now when I say DUNE BANTHAS, I mean DUNE BANTHAS, dont kill any other kind but these. They dont aid each other in combat so you can take them down one at a time for 1k xp a kill. Be sure you send in your pet first.
Once you get the 70k unarmed xp you need do the following:
Stop
Take a deep breath
Pat yourself on the back
At this point all Commandos and Smugglers can hop of the train heading to TKA Ville
3.) Getting XP: The train to TKA Ville
Teras Kasi Novice:
This skill will test your limits even more than unarmed 4. Things become a little easier though. Myself personally I stuck with the Dune Banthas for a while. I moved off the Diseased Bocatts completely. After getting bored with Banthas I started running around looking for a better way. I found salvation.
If you start off in Anchorhead Tattooine and start running in the direction of Wayfar (unmounted) youll make your way to a flat expance of sand. Here youll find "Greater Desert Womp Rats" along with their smaller friends "Womp Rats" and "Verigated Womp Rats". Send in your rock beetle first and start hacking away. Remember to use berserk liberally. With these mobs youll also want to hit them with Intimidate 1. It shouldnt take you TOO long to get the XP you need. But when you do, CONGRATULATIONS! Youve just made Teras Kasi Novice.
After Teras Kasi Novice:
Youre now a TKN. Dont get cocky and head off to the advanced planets. Stay on Tattoine doing the same thing you did to get Teras Kasi Novice. The only addition to mobs you may want to consider are "Swarming Lesser Dewbacks". These are agro mobs found in the same general area as the Womp Rats. Be sure they are attacking your pet and not you.
4.) Which tree to climb first:
Some people will tell you to head up the Power tree. I wouldnt/didnt. The first TKA skill I learned was Balance 1. Why? Because having a knockdown attack is a must. After that I started working on the Meditation tree until I had Meditation 2. Why? Because with Meditation 2 you can give yourself a Power Boost. This skill will give you a slight HAM boost. Its based on your mind stats. The more mind you have, the more youll get from Power Boost. This only works with your base mind and will not factor in buffs. This is not a bug, its a nerf. Once you get Meditation 2 its time to work your way up the Power tree. The Precision tree will come with combat XP so just fill it in as you can.
Once your levels are around 2/1/2/1 You should head off to Dantooine to do Huurton stalker missions, and finish your path to Teras Kasi Master doing them.
5.) The last few tidbits:
Armor. Yes, Ive neglected armor completely. Until you move to Dantooine there really isnt any need for it. The encumberances will just suck up your HAM when you do specials. And since your pet is tanking anyway you wont need it. When you move to Dantooine you should get UBESE ARMOR, not composite. I say this because Ubese is generally cheaper, has lower encumberances, and tends to have better kinetic resistances which is what you want.
Your Rock Beetle is now useless on Dantooine.
Once you head off to Dantooine trade in your fast Vibroknucklers for ones that do more damage.
If you are wealthy enough to get doctor/dancer/musician buffs then by all means go out and do it.
Spices: If you want to use a spice I suggest Muon Gold. It will increase all of your mind stats for 10 minutes. I suggest this because dancer/musician buffs arent as common. Just beware of the downer that lasts for 2 minutes.
6.) The End
As Ive said before this is based on my own personal experiences and was directed towards newbies and people who intend on soloing. Thank yous go out to the people who took the time to read this. I know it wasnt the best of guides and being 5am here doesnt help much either.

... nope, no, I was wrong, everything I was thinking about WAS in that faq. Except silly stuff like, havest meat - it's worth MONEY (I think I discovered that in like week 2 or something). Use food and drugs. Get basic medical skills. You really need $ when you're getting started, I haven't felt much pinch since getting nov TK but before then $ limited what I could do. I mean, if you get jazzed on Pixie and sauced on that fishac you can walk right up to a kimogilla, slap it on the nose and call its mother a platypus and you wouldn't feel a thing. (actual kimogilla experience may vary, professional hunters used, do not try this at unarmed 4).
So, how do you get $? harvest quality products, each planet has different quality stuff, and i think it changes. For example, sometimes Rori (which has very slow rabbits with very big teeth. Do not hunt there in low lvl brawlerdom, it's great for bleed shot hunting but rough on the up close and personal) has had very high quality bone in the past, I sold it for 6-9 credits per unit and harvested a couple thousand units just hunting whatever I could find. So pay attention to your harvesting, find the quality stuff and harvest like mad. Use all that handy extra cash to buy drugs, food, armor, bio-enhanced brick-a-brack, all that.
Details - quality in skins/hides, as i understand it, is determined by overall quality (oq) and malleability. I'm sure the other stuff matters too but OQ seems pretty important. In meat it's OQ and potential energy. Sell all but the most horrible stuff at 3cr/u, better stuff can be sold for 5-8cr/u or to individuals (many people are looking for quality meat) - if you get a motivated customer you can get much better prices then in the baazar.
We need more helpful stories, you know, stories of good fights (where you learn how other people fight), adventures, diaries, etc.
Spuzzed,
That was great mate. I am looking to take TKA in the next few days, so to read that was a great way to get me started.
Cheers
Once you get higher in the TKA tree (about halfway) switch from huurton lairsto piket lairs.
Pikets are a bit tougher (they dizzy and stun like crazy) however they are very doable.
They give more XP and spawn more per lair. Huurtons spawn 2 at a time and pikets spawn 3 at a time.
So 9 pikets per lair vs 6 huurtons per lair = more xp.
The guide is fine, but I don't think think Teras Kasi students should be tought to hide behind pets.
Pets have a purpose but a TKA needs to know how to tank on his own, know his limitations, strengths and his opponents' weaknesses.
Better to cut your teeth learning your skills on banthas than on rancors later...

With the upcoming changes to non-ch pet levels, and the creature rebalance, I doubt if it'll even be possible.
Good work on the guide though. A very nice compilation ![]()
