Mitigation just reduces the spread of damage by 30% per level. Toughness reduces damage taken. say you got hit by somebody who does 100-1000 damage. first, mitigation reduces the spread, so the damage is 100-400. now it calculates a random number for damage. Then your toughness applies itself to the number. they are two different mechanics, they both work, but in different ways. mitigation works before damage is calculated and toughness applies after. so basically they do "stack". not the word I would use, but the idea is the same.

sorry, I meant 20% per level. so at level 3 you would have a 60% reduction in the spread.

Hmmm... if I understand it correctly, melee damage mitigation will not do much against TKA unarmed damage since minimum damage is not affected. (IME, TKA unarmed damage is almost constant if you don't use a VK).
Is that right?
