Thread: Firearm User Knockdowns?
Precisely, my point was how can it be justified that other non-brawling non-physical combat professions, such as the firearms ones, should be able to out-knockdown us in a physical confrontation. Pistol whipping has nothing to do with how a laser hurts, it’s a physical attack.
If you ask me, should a pistol totting individual be trying to pistol-whip a highly trained martial artist with the butt of his handgun at arms-length range, I’d put my money on the martial artist to bury him every time.
This doesn’t currently appear to be the case.
Previously / How it should be:
Teras Kasi: “If only I can get him close enough, my physical strengths will win through.”
Firearm User: “I better not let that TK get close enough, he’ll bury me, I’ll keep him at range.”
Currently:
Firearm User: “Let him come closer, I’ll just take him out with a pistol whip.”
Teras Kasi: “I’m doomed if I stand off at range, I’m doomed if I get close in, I’m doomed.”
Wrong, surely?

Knockdowns really shouldn't even be based on profession, but by weapon used. Of course, the certification for that weapon would be required. By applying some common sense, we can deduce that a knockdown would require the use of your bare hands, a polearm, or a hammer as far as the melee professions go. Without the addition of some type of mass propelling gun, like a bean bag gun, ranged users should not be able to knock down an opponent.
Yes, the pistoleer knockdown is a pistol whip move (called pistol melee defense) - no shots are fired. Currently my TKA KD1 costs 215 ham, but my pistol melee defense (I picked up this skill recently) costs only 82 ham with a cdef pistol. It also has a slightly longer range then our unarmed range.
I'm not really sure where the balance is supposed to come in here. As it stands now, the pistoleer (a ranged fighter) who doesn't have to get into melee can use a longer range KD at almost one third of the TKA KD ham cost. My current method of getting unarmed xp is to pull with the cdef pistol, perform a few pistol whips, then melee down with my VK. In other words, to be able to melee effectively, I have to pull out my pistol. How does this make any sense what so ever?

Use some common sense physics here. Lasers not only cause people to bleed, but they also carry enough momentum to knock a grown man off his feet, so of course pistoleers and bounty hunters *should* be able to knock us down.
Hmmmm... since when did lasers have momentum...
Good point.

I’m curious; are the firearms professions (I think it’s specifically Pistoleer and Smuggler) knockdowns still functioning as was? i.e. can they still easily knockdown someone at close range?
I’m curious because our one alleged benefit over firearms users is that we’re allegedly supposed to own ‘them’ at point blank/close range - generally speaking an alleged Brawler & Teras Kasi strength. If they’re still able to pistol whip us or whatever it’s called, whilst we’re unable to use our special knockdown move due to prohibitive HAM costs, they in-fact own us at close range.
And so if this is the case, I’m suddenly curious where our alleged strength lies. A dev response would be nice.
Here, I can start the ball rolling;
“Teras Kasi are better than a -insert firearm profession with knockdown special here- at close range because… X”
As you can guess I don’t entirely know what I’m talking about as I don’t entirely know much about the firearm professions knockdowns, so anyone shedding any light on this would be appreciated.
I'm pretty sure pistoleers nows have pistol whip and suppression fire which is a ranged posture lowering attack.
Not that I want them nerfed. I want us the KD back.
His question was not whether or not they should be able to. His question was one of game balance... where is the benefit of being TK in balance with the obvious negatives. And unless I am mistaken, at least as far as pistoleers go, pistolwhip has absolutely nothing to do with firing the weapon. It is a quick bash with the gun.
And to answer his question... there is no balance with KD at the moment between the professions. As for myself I wouldn't mind a devs view on how we have become more balanced in the game. But on this issue they still remain omiously silent.
