Thread: Since we are stuck in the TKA tree...here are some things to do!
Get a non-combat prof as your 2nd profession.
I woke up this morning, I surrendered all my CH skills, learnt Novice Artisanand Novice Medic.
I never really cared about Medic before, I was too lazy to craft, I felt like it was wasted time, eventho a lot of TKAs told me to learn the basics. So right now, I'm having FUN doing some Medical Crafting. So if anyone doesn't have the right-most branch of the Medic tree (Organic Chemistry), go get it now! It's now or never!
Also, I learnt Novice Artisan. Why? Simply because I felt like I missed a big part of the game: the social part. When I exp with my TKA, I'm always solo. After 10 minutes of thinking, I chose wich Elite non-combat Profession I wanted to have : Merchant. I could have chosen Architect, WeaponSmith, Armorsmith etc etc..That is your choice. The important thing to remember is that you can finally try to get a reputation with the stuff you are selling.
Even when/if the TKA gets back to his previous state, you will never regret having a non-combat profession, trust me.
Since the patch, I never really felt like playing the game anymore, it was just too boring, now I just can't wait to go back to SWG and learn some new skills, it's really refreshing!
Trying new things can't be bad for you.
Good call on the medic skills. I love them and hate them at the same time, as I'd really prefer that the game was playable without them - and without a lot of downtime as a consequence.
I myself ignored them until I was about 5 boxes into TK and things got uglier. Once you can use some stim b packs give experiencing another try. Hopefully we'll get fixed but in the meantime you should be able to do destroy missions if you're real careful and get 1 mob at a time and have some healing capability.
Another thing I ntoiced a lot of the other non-knockdown professions like fencer and 2h sword do is pick up ch and let their pets tank for them. Supposedly if you fight in a l-shaped pattern and let your pet always be 1 m closer to the mob then you, you can whale on it with impunity.
I surrendered all my ch skills long ago so maybe someone can verify.
Perhaps you could all get novice ch and a level 20ish pet to tank for you while you continue to collect unarmed experience =) I am serious, no sarcasm intended.
Ok, right now I'm honestly having the less downtime ever. I'd even say that I don't have any downtime.
Chose 2 missions. Mine are around 1.5k credits rewarding. Kill the monsters around, then attack the lair, until one creature spawns. "Peace" the lair and kill the monster, then start attacking the lair only when there are no monsters around. Each time you start having low HAM, simply make a camp near the lair, sit down, and while you are regenerating, craft. When you are all healed up, continue your job on the lair, etc.
Seriously, I am getting the funback I lost for the 5 past days.
Yes, even pre-patch it really seemed I was shooting myself in the foot trying to progress without medic skills. It was the same problem we speak of today - I was getting killed by the white cons my destroy missions sent me after.
BasicallyI dabbled in ch, smuggler, and pistoleer as I got to that 5 boxes into TK stage. It just wasn't working as I was set up so I dropped some skills and added others. I figured adding Master Brawler would make me more 'focused' and 'effective' in my chosen melee profession. It sure did, but not from the numbers, but from the specials I gained - especially pre-nerf berserk1/2 on demand (+20 berserk means almost never failing either version, too bad it stinks now); intimidate2 is to die for - 2 minutes of half damage - am surprised they didn't nerf this instead of berserk, myself, it's so darn effective.
Adding medic to the mix and finally starting to use knockdown (yeah I know slow learner) made me go from gimp to pimp in 1 week lol.
I have really been thinking maybe this is as intended. But then I just look at all the pistoleer/whatevers and they don't need med skills or master marksman to hit their master rank. Once I hit master I had planned to drop MB/add master doctor, and if that didn't work, scrap all the med skills and do an artisan trade, seeing as I my hunting days are over except for faction missions. Then again, I wouldn't survive the faction missions for long without MBMM =(
**edit**, I have painted myself into a corner. Time for a new char I guess if I can't force myself to give up any of my skills =( Nevermind, I ramble. I just wish I coudl afford the skillpoints to keep MTK, be viable at it, and still do something fun on the side, like artisan or even entertainer again =(

This is exactly the same scenario I see my character sliding into.At the same time,I see other players/friends being able to use a wider variety of skills, mainly because theyutilizeranged abilities that allow them to effectively never even get hit in combat. Even bounty hunters seem to have more variety. It is somewhat humorous, though: nearly every TKA I meet in game is also a master medic. Not because they want to be, but because they have to be.Hmm ... suddenly the TKA profession seems even less attractive ... if that's possible at the moment.
