Thread: The can't attack while running issue still an issue?
I have mixed reports about moving while attacking. I find I actually hit while I am running if something is chasing me and it's close enough. Kind of amusing to see 'you hit obnoxiouschasingblue for 253 damage' as I am just trying to get out of it's reach. My foot must have slipped.
Used to get this a lot with my pulling experiments - you know, trying to aggro just one and get away with it to fight it somewhere secluded.
As for hitting things I am chasing, I seem to have less success. Unless I unarmedlunge1/2 them down to the ground I always seem to get 'you are out of range' messages.
'Course the mobs seem to have no problem hitting me as I flee, which is a tad unfair.
To recap, I can hit things chasing me while I run, I can't hit things without using a 15 m ranged lunge to stop them if I am chasing them. This is bare handed - those VKs have awful range.
Here's why a stick command will never work using the current engine.
Your avatar needs to be within 3 meters of your enemy in order to hit it with vks. Now assuming you have 200-300 lat this is near impossible with a moving enemy unless of course you are ahead of them (on your screen) by 8 or 9 ish meters (where the server will recognise you are close enough to hit your enemy). Now of course this would be virtually impossible when dealing with a real person in pvp since they arent restricted to moving in one direction while pansily kiting your ass unlike most humanoids with guns who stop periodically as well. Now with 70-120 ish lat you would need to only stay slightly ahead of them and of course with 0 lat (yeah right) you could be ontop of them and attack while running. The reason you can attack a monster thats attacking you while you try to flee is because the mobs react instantly to your character's moves since they are using a /stick command (in a sense) and do not suffer from latency. Now when you are attacking a stationary enemy and then they start to run even if you are inside of their model you wont be able to attack them even with 70 lat since thats enough of a gap to space your character 3m or more from the mob on the server's side. This command will never do anything under the current engine and would not be worth wasting time to implement unless range was client-side in which many people would not have trouble keeping within 3m of their oponent without the use of this command.
