Thread: TKM meant to keep Jedi in check?

On several occasions, I've heard TK claim this in defence of the professions outrageous power, and yes, it is outrageous. Any TK denying this should stop lying to themselves and everyone else. My roommate has Mastered all the Elite ranged professions and is currently a Master BH. He recently got a 2nd acct and is TKM as one of his professions. He's absolutely appalled by the TKs power when compared to ranged, atleast in PvE. I agree with him.

Where in the EU does it state that TKM are meant to keep Jedi in check, therefore implying a TKM is equal to a Jedi?

I've read a lot of the EU but I'm by no means a fanboi who's read everything. There are only 3 references I can think of.

1. Shadows of the Empire- It's here that we learn Teras Kasi means "Steel Hands". The reference pretty much ends there.

2. Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter- Maul is TKM as well as Sith. We see TK in action and learn that all TK moves are named after animals, like "Rancor Rising". I don't recall any "keep Jedi in check" reference here.

3. The Masters of Teras Kasi PS console game- Star Wars Mortal Combat but still EU and therefore sanctioned by Lucasfilm. There's reference to Ardyn Lyn having some abilities equal to a Jedi due to being TKM.

If TKMs are supposed to "keep Jedi in check" doesn't that imply they're equal to a Jedi? And if so, why doesn't the entire TK profession require unlocking like Jedi? If TK's are supposed to be able to deal with Jedi why can a Master Tailor pick it up? Shouldn't huge power come at a huge cost, like a large SP expenditure like Master BH? Aren't TKMs who deny that the profession is overpowered, but that others are underpowered,in one breath, then in the other breath claim it's meant to "keep Jedi in check", killing their argument that TK isn't overpowered and are infact implying that TK SHOULD be all powerful to deal with Jedi?

Before the flames start, I'm not someone who was just "pwned" by a TK nor am I a BH or Riflemanor some other profession trying to nerf TK. I'm TK 4/3/0/4 working my way to Master.I'm TK because I'm a Martial Arts practioner in RL and it seems like an interesting profession. I'm also a Master Pistoleer, Smuggler 0/1/4/0(retired Master) and TKM would complement my existing skills nicely.

I've witnessed the overpower on many occasions and am experiencing it first hand now that i'm close to Master.

As far as the Vette or Geo Cave unbuffed/unarmored response goes, both of those places were meant to tearALL professions apart due to the Krayts dressed as Stormtroopers.

You're saying that you are grinding TKA and you are now at 4304....

For some reason i dont believe in that , every TKA will start by the power and speed column first , if you think that the profession is overpowered just wait till you get to the Master Power Techs lol . Now let me say what i think you are , youre a ranged lass runing around the stats and noticed that at novice we get something like 120 speed and damage and automaticaly you thing that we are overpowered compared to youre ranged stats , you are probably also raped by every melee out there every single day of the week and twice at weekends . I apologize to all of you guys out there that really know what this professions are but im now sick and tired of this trolls that started playing 2 weeks ago and dont even go in the trouble of actually learning the profession before they start crying nerf . Btw , if you're asking to yourself what profs i am let me just say it right now , i am TKM , Master Swords and fencer 0204 and everyone that is a TKM know that we arent overpowered , so go whinne in the rifleman forum next....

When you get to hell tell them that i've sent you .... you'll get a group discount.

Since Teras Kasi is a very very new addition to the SW universe the fact remains that if Sony wanted to they could with Lucas Arts permittion create an extensive background to TK based on the current official facts. We know that the Order of Palawan was created to police Jedi activities without consent from the Jedi counsil after the Great Scizm, beyond that we know only that Teras Kasi taps into some aspects of the Force (as evident with Arden Lynn) and is primarally a system of beliefs and practices designed to master the body and mind with the obvious addition of unarmed combat skills which fullfill the aspects for being 'Jedi Watchers' and mastering their bodies.

However the Palawan Order has long since died out since the destruction of the Jedi Order, so that means a TK is not by default a Jedi hunter at all, they simply practice theTeras Kasi teachings. As for TK being overpowered, I have to disagree. Fair enough that once you allow a TKM to get within melee range and pin you there things are as good as over more or less, however that is the same with all professions. This misconception that TK is overpowered is because the unarmed skills are UNDERPOWERED, every TK will tell you there is a significant step up both in functionality and power once you hit novice and with the KD skill and Dizzy available so soon in the professions tree it allows TKs a superior advantage in PvP far sooner than other melee professions. However that is a trade off for the limitations of TK due to the fact we only have one damage type and that is very commonly defended against in PvP. To to frank here, people who moan about TK being overpowered in PvP are just victims of the armor hole which has now been plugged up.

I just became a TKM today and like all the abilities, but how can you say its to powerfull when we have to fight at point blank range. We have to heal our self because we get wounds right off the start. We need to do the damage we do to compete. When I was a Commando flame 4 I was powerful but I could still get a little distance and kite things when I was getting hurt. Even when I use pets I get attacked because I have to fight close. There are also more creatures now with armor and high kinetic which really gives use problems. Dont forget everyone now as high kinetic armor for PVP. In till the next publish we only have 1 type of damage weapon so I think you need to fight more things as a TKA and you will understand that TKA is not overpowered.

Hi,

the Masters of Teras Kasi Playstation game isn't part of the EU. Although you are right, there are indeed 3 references in the EU; the third being on page 130 of Agents of Chaos II. You're suspicion that there is current evidence within the EU to back-up the SW table-top RPG portrayal of the teras kasi art that they are meant to "keep jedi in check."

Awesomely,

you said that TKAs were outrageous

and suggested they might have an unfair advantage.

Those are the unholy words.

Now they will have to eat your brains.

I'm sorry.

My vision for TKAs....

1) It is fiction and some people's answer to the jedi slot.

2) Tell your buddy/roommateto go to the Vette or Geno Caves without buffs or armor and see just how powerful he is then.

I like it when I see "Well my friend has a dog who chased a cat into a house down the street where mycousin lives andwho happens to be a friend of my Mathteacherand they drink on the weekends and they know a CRACKHEAD with pistols 4 thatgot beat by a TKM and it was obvious to him that TKMs are overpowered."

Thanks to Vasarian Brandy I am now the town drunk and ONLY go to the AA meetings to brag about the killing spree done during my drunken rage.
