Hi. I'd like to organize a TKA tournament event for the guild I am in and a few friendly guilds.

I'd like to know what was the experience like for people who organized or went to such events?

Was it fun? Was it a mess?

What works and what doesnt for tournament rules?

I am thinking of doing a no buff, no armor, no VK no healing restriction and having a referee (Master Doc, who can rez, in case there is a deathblow). The first combattant to be incapacited 2 times loose. And so on...

Thanks to share your experience in this matter

might be a good idea to have contestants fight naked to equalize people running around with +25 unarmed damage, +25 dizzy defense.. etc

also it might be a good idea to ban /unarmedknockdown2

I havn't been in a tournament, but have been in a number of friendly duels. I'd recommend:

- Have a Doc on hand as you said. In fact, you might want to find one that is just x4xx and needs med xp. The rezing is great med xp

- Ban unarmed knockdown 2. It just makes things unfun in a TKA tournament. Possibly ban all knockdowns, but at least kd2.

- Definitely go no buffs, no armor, no healing, no vks to make all things equal.

- Have your referees have their sound turned way up and listen very closely to all competitors who are fighting/waiting to fight. Why? You want to listen for the sound of players eating food. Things like synthsteak and pie can make a huge difference in combat but will not show any obvious effects. So listen and watch very closely for players who might try to "cheat".

- Finally, depending on how many people are involved, you might want to set up 2 classes. A Pure TKA class for fighters with only TKA and no other combat ability, and one for players with multiple combat professions/stackers. Simply because the differences in defense will obviously make a pure tka more likely to lose, all other things equal.

Hope that helps and good luck with your tournament

Hey,

What server are you going to run this on? I'm on Lowca, and would LOVE to be in something like this. Lowca seems to have maybe 2 or 3 advertised player events per month (if even that many). I have a lot of friends there, so i don't want to jump ship, but i would love to be in a TKA tournament. and if you're not on Lowca, maybe once you hold yours, you can let me know how it turned out, and give me some pointers, and maybe i'll try to organize one myself.

good luck.

To stop people eating food before the battle etc, you want to kill each player just before they fight and then rez them to cancel any food/buffs etc. I know you still have the problem that they could use food/spice in battle, but at least makes things equal when they start fighting.

I would say allow clothes (let them use skill tapes if they like) but no armor, no VK, no med buffs, no spicebut do allow food.

Why all this? Because you can't regulate food use well and if someone obays the rules and another does not that would be very unfair. Spice is an easy one because if they use it they will eventually puke, easy to spot and disqualify.

No med buffs to shorten the tournements is a good idea, that will help keep things moving along nicely, but do allow power boost for that is a TK skill.

If you don't wantskill tapes used, then have an entrance fee and have the entrance fee cover the cost of a tournament uniform that can be made with no sockets and they can keep that as a souvineer, maybe have a nice one made for the winners as a prize.

Don't disallow anyTK attacks, let them use all there skills and if they use there foods right they can negate much of the problems this would cause. Withsome foods I will have a total of around+134 KD defense, so let them try. The food adds veriables to the competaters which will help to display there skills better as a fighter for it shows that they can use there tools at hand and adapt to the situation and not just fire off some macro.

Torn on whether or not to allow healing during combat... It does cause the healer to delay an attack, but if you disallow healing that would allow them to do things other than mind hits. Don't know what would be best really... Hmm.

Its very hard to ban anything...but some things need it.

TK only takes up a few points, and all those other points can't be banned... fencer defenses and the like can't be banned, extra melee defense from pistoleer or rifleman or any brawler class can't be banned. Now a Doctor/ TK is a dilema...They spent all those skillpoints and don't get to use them for other things like KD defenses, should they be allowed to buff themselves? Probalby not, but heal damage and states yep.

Food's okay, spice's okay... just no waiting for stomachs to empty or downers to go away... when its your turn to fight you fight NOW.

Banning other weapons, poisons etc is up to you... are you hosting a PURE TK tournament?

Armor is fine, it'll make people who spam UH3 die quicker. Now if you were to let a buffed doc wear armor, he/she would have too big of an advantage... this is why you probalby have to ban buffs. Or you could buff everyone and make the duels last much much longer. Or you could just buff secondaries... there are alot of things to consider here.

TKM for Life.

- I support keeping & balancing the current combat system You can too

I would say allow buffs, foods, spices. It is extremely hard to monitor who has secondaries and defences buffed. However, I would ban armor. I have seen TKM's fight each other for over a half hour before and not have a scratch simply because their regan rate is higher then then the damage they are taking.
