Thread: I can go rifle or carbine w/ TK, anyone have exp. with one/both?
So I'd really like your wisdom on which to take.
If it matters, I'm rounding things out w/ a little teeny bit medic and some CH (like I was born to do).
Many thanks for your thoughts.

I've mastered cabineer, and am a TKA now. I dropped carbineer to advance in TKA however. But anyway...
If your picking up medic skills, the carbineer would be doable. You would have a nice KD to stop things from running from you, and really high counterattack bonues.. Although, never was certain those worked while not equipping a carbine. from my experience, they don't.
As for rifleman, once you hit master, you probably wouldn't even use your TKA skills much. They are very HIGH damage, and have an amazing area shot that makes carbines look like pistols...
I'd say, get TKM, it's FUN.. then, experiment with the defense mods from both rifle and carbine, or maybe even pick up some other melee classes.
i am a former tkm/m.''carbinier''. i was both at the same time.
being able to switch to a ranged weapon when an enemy is kiting you is such a relief. especially when that ranged weapon lets you do an infinite spam of KD's that almost all work. not to mention that carbine has some very good area attacks.
personally, i think carbine is my favorite of the 3 main ranged weapons, and i've done them all. the only thing that hurts is the ham costs. still, when you compare the ham to rifle, you are much better off with carbine, since you can heal yourself wheras when you run out of mind you have to take a breather (unless you have a cm with you) and rifle specials are heavy on the mind.
my vote is carbine!
As my sig says i am a MRM and TKM. It is a great combo. The 2 professions compliment each other very well and take care of almost all the weaknesses of the professions.
Rifle gives you the best AoE damage in the game. At master you do not really miss, and fire once a second (specials at 2 sec usually). You have access to AR-3 weapons and can take out mind.
The combo of the 2 defensive skills gives a melee defense of 104 and a ranged defense of 123. Being a wookie with the priorities you have listed, this is a very good thing. In both PvE and PvP I am missed more than I am hit.
While carbine does have a KD that rifle does not, Rifle has an AoE dizzy instead. But really, you do not need to stop kiters, let them run, they will only die tired. ![]()
The one caution about going rifle is that you will need to master it. It is not a very forgiving profession to dabble in.
Carbine has a ranged knockdown which sure would be nice in catching those **edit** kiters.
I'm still really interested in all your thoughts, it would be nice to decide which type to use and start using them...
Im Master Rifleman, and took up TKA for a defense only (nasty 2.5X melee mod), so I would believe that either route would be fine for you. Carbineer/TKA, nice match-up, with medic you can pretty much keep yourself healed on the action pool, tat. sunburn is very benificial, and as stated before, a ranged KD.
Rifle/Tka, well for me, it's Rifle first, TKA second. Nice ta be able ta beat the hell outta them pets when someone sends em after ya, or when a meleer comes burst running ya thinking your a kneeling 1 hit with that rifle in hand.
Now on the otherhand (I've not been in game to much anymore, so the new statsareunknown by me atm)maybe Carbineer/Swordmanlots of counterattack, which I would imagine is stackable to both carbine and sword, and nice defense bonuses as well. /shrug
With the medic/CH your planning you can do a variation of my old spec. (I'm a Wookiee as well)
Master Rifle
novice medic
CH 2200 for Graul Mauler and Bile drenched quenker
2242 TKA
I hadgreat range, a pet ta send for that xtra shot, and enough melee offense to defend myself.
Guess the question to ask yourself would be, "Do I want to be a melee fighter with the ability to do ranged damage?" or "Do I want to be a ranged fighter, with the ability to defend myself?"
'nuff rambling
the ranged defense at master rifleman is superb. a running rifleman really doesn't get hit by ranged attacks... a prone rifleman, using /takecover, also does well (not that this is a good position to be in for melee).
there's a whole lot of reasons I'd recommend rifle... as mentioned above. it's not always easy, and I'll agree that a rifle dabbler won't be very happy with the profession.
A rifleman/Heavy swordsman makes the best combination. Both classes have the mind bleeds which as far as i know stack together. I guess it all depends on what you want to do with you character. If you want to PvE i would go with rifles. Shoot them at a distance and then when they run in, switch to TKA and finish the job. If you want to PvP i would go with Carbines. Stops the nasty little kiters with the ranged KD.

I'm a little concerned about the huge bonus you get at master rifleman, I planned on dabbling in the ranged profession (and dabblilng in CH just because it's a blast. I have a pet rabbit and songbird. what's not to love?) so I might find the lower level carbine skills are more useful on a daily basis. However, as many on the rifle boards have pointed out the defensive abilities of a rifleman/tka are next to none.
Well, if I ever get near my points cap (still have 90) then I guess I'll just HAVE to make a decision.
If anyone else has exp combining either rifles or carbines w/ tk please post here (i'll keep watchin' this thread). Especially if anyone has dabbled in rifles - did you regret it?
thanks,
