I have enough points to get Novice Swordsman or Fencer to complement my TKA Skills. I was wondering which provides the better defense abilities. What do you guys think.

What exactly are you attempting to compliment, tka have little if any vunerability. If there was one it would be the Kinetic dmg.

I was wondering if the Counterattack or dodge bonuses are worth it.

Well TKA has it's share of vulnerabilities, but that is another debate all together. Fencer has higher defenses in general over the 2h swordsman. Counter attack, and dodge are both working very well with CoB. However keep in mind that to see the benefits of dodge or counter attack. You must have the weapon associated with those skills equiped. If you just use unarmed. You will not see a higher dodge chance if you are also a fencer. For the dodge to actually work, you must have a 1h weapon equiped. Same thing with counter attack, and block.

If your looking for pure defense, fencer is my recommendation. Fencer + TKA is a combination of the two highest melee/range defense profession, and fencer now has some nice boosts to resistances that help out TKA's lower ones. Not to mention the extra combat equilibrium.

2h sword can be defensive if counter attack is played right, but otherwise your looking at raw damage mostly. However, the 2h swordsman has some very nice resistances to stun and intimidate the other resistances aren't bad either.

I'm going master 2h myself. I think it covers some of tera kasi's weaknesses. They have nice bleeds, blast damage on the powerhammer and of course good targeted pool attacks. For me personally it works out nicely since I run with a master rifleman and we can then both focus on the mind pool so we can rake in the cash.

gozarian - i believe that dodge is a generic modifier - not only associated with one hand weapons, or not only if the weapon is up. Like melee and ranged defese mods dodge works regardless of what weapon is up. I mean theres dodge mods on the pistoleer tree too, and the two are not differentiated as pistol dodge vs.one hand dodge. Although i consent that unarmed toughness and one-hand melee toughness are reliant on what weapon i believe dodge is generic and would work regardless, although i dont have data to show it.

That might have been true before the last patch, but several tests afterward are starting to show that dodge is linked to 1 handed swords AND pistols, using either will allow the dodge + modifierto work.

****NOTE**** You still might dodge/counterattack/block,but the + dodge modifer does not increase your chance if you are not using a pistol or 1 handed sword.Other tests have been showing everyone, even a complete non-combat person, gets a 3% chance to dodge/counterattack/block[bugged showing as a counterattack].
