Thread: Scout Exploration or Novice medic?

easy decision: novice medic. you can only afford novice + 1 skill, and 1 tier in exploration is hardly worth it, definitely not as worthwhile as having novice medic + first aid 1.

Currently I am a Master Sharpshooter/Master Marksman. I wanted to fill the weakness I have with close combat and melee defense and believe TKM is the way to go. Going Master TKA will leave me just enough points for either Novice Medic or Scout -Explore 1.

What do you fellow TKA's advise knowing that having a mount or vehical can replace the ever tiring 2k run to missions?

Thanks

Playing without any medic skills is lunacy. I dropped all of scout a couple months ago and haven't missed it once since mounts came out.

i've droppped medic many times and not really missed it. dropping scout would kill me!

naturally, others feel differently.

it's cheap and easy to change if it doesn't work out, whichever way you go.

mori, are you talking about *just* novice scout? or are you talking about novice scout + exploration 3? i think thatjust having novice scout is only good for 2 things: placing basic camps and fileting fish

personally, i would drop master marksman. a master sharpshooter fires at the speed cap no problem, and i've never heard complaints of missing so i don't see why you need it to augment your rifle skills with master marksman skill mods. that also frees up ALOT of points too 48 to be precise, with which you could very easily get both exploration 4 and first aid 4 (including the 18 points you had leftover already) and still have 8 points leftover!

melee and ranged defense = worthless in pvp

i have +143 melee defense (TKM + Duelist + stun/melee modded outfit) and in a fight with another TKM, just to test my defenses (i was /peace-d and healed myself while he autoattacked) he hit me 27 times and missed 3 times. my hunch is that melee and ranged defense check directly against the accuracy mod of the attacker, which means that you will never get your defense high enough to matter against an elite profession master.

pve is a different story. assuming i'm not stunned, i can take any npc in the game without a problem. they just don't hit me. i'll take 3-5 hits in a fight with a nightsister spellweaver. i've killed the 80% resistance force sensitive npc's without breaking a sweat. the only ones that give me trouble are the smc dragoons, they land stun alot! what stun does (not confirmed, another *hunch* of mine) is negates defensive mods, making the stunned one easier to hit, and easier to debuff.

anyway, if your objective is pvp, then tkm + rifleman is a very good combo. strafe 2 dominates enemies at range, and if your enemy closes the gap on you, you just put away your rifle and you are still a force to be reckoned with. unarmedlunge2 is a non-issue, since you will not need to worry about being kited (want to kite me? fine. /strafeshot2 /smile). warcry2 is nice though. it delays the next action of your opponent for 20 seconds. there is a range check though (you have to be within 30 meters to use it i think) and it *might* be aoe (warcry1 sometimes affected multiple area mobs, so i would suspect that warcry2 is no different).

now, here's the pickle. warcry2 is nice indeed. but if you are pvp-ing out in the player cities or out in the boonies, you are going to wish you had exploration 3 if you have to run away. at the same time, you also said that you want to keep at least novice medic so you can heal yourself midfight. but you can't have tkm, m.rifle, m.brawler, explorer, and novice medic, as you well know so you need to decide for yourself which is more important? being able to both heal and run up hills? or being able to delayyour opponent for 20 seconds (at considerable ham cost: warcry 1 costs me 200 ham,so i can't imagine what warcry2 would cost me. btw i have low secondaries to pump mind stats, so 200 is on the very high end). also, it's not guaranteed to stick, which means that you could be left high and dry.

it's a tough choice indeed.

Thanks for the post. Its been most helpful! I will keep the scout and move off master marksman. Warcry2 alone isn't enough to make me go master brawler "AGAIN" so I have decided to go with:

Master Sharpshooter/TKM/Scout (4001)/Medic (2000)/Marksman (4004)

I think that will cover it and should make up for the lack of effect I had as a master pikeman, man was that a joke.

Thanks again,

Mynroe,

**edit**, now u got me thinking about my decision for mst marksman. As long as I have novice medic I am happy. I have beena master doc for quite awhile and feel a simple B Stimp goes along way. The first aid and other features can be carried buy my guild as I normally group up. For wounds and other ailments wouldn't the meditation line help with that once at Monk status?

I really was looking for a class that would compliment my rifle but you have a very good point on the speed and accuracy but havn't really gone out and tested it. The next patch does have an increase in rifle accuracy as well so I may be changin now from your comments. ARGH!!!

My objective is PVP so I may go with Master Brawler for the ranged defense, melee defense, and unarmed lunge 2. Problem with that is I will have to drop the Combat Experience Line in my marksman (Guardsman) in order to do it. Other problem is gettin those Apprentice pts again but that will come in time I guess.

What are your thoughts on going master brawler instead?
