Hi everyone,
I am making a TKM/MCH/xx3x Ranger. I was wodnering how viable TKA is as my only combat proffesion. I mas ont eh template make and viewed the report to find that i barely had any defences vs. states. Is this ok? For those of you CH/TKA out there do you regreat your move or would you say i should go with a different combat proffesion.

i was going TKA/CH, but i might be giving up ch with all the problems it's been giving me lately. Pets dissapearing, running away, getting almost no xp for kills, its just too much stress for a profession that is essentially worthless except for show.
Anyways, TKM works great with it, you can meditate off wounds, do great without armor, and its a fairly inexpensive profession (you dont gotta spend millions on good weapons).
Only problem is really high end stuff you cant take. GDK's, elders, rockshapers, the higher level kimogilas, krayt dragons, all that stuff is way too tough for a tk to deal enough damage. You can tank it all day long but it'd take you a week to kill it.

TKA as a stand alone combat profession is one of the better ones in that game. All around good defence, good damage, and can tank all day long. Has that pesky problem on only doing one type of damage that the higher level mobs are immune to but other then that not to much will trouble you in game.
In general when going MCH I think ranged professions are a better fit for it. With MCH your pets will be doing the tanking so having TKA you would be kinda wasting one of its best benifits. Most of the TKA MCH's I have known, in time would just get tired of pulling there pets out when they could tank and kill the mob/npc faster justing using there TKA skills
.
TKA goes nicely with any profession in the game, so bottom line is it would work well if that is what you would like to do.
PS: Ryutek Create a Template Thread in the forum in the future please ask these type's of questions there to save the clutter.

This is a loaded question IMO.
If you are all about PVE then TK will let you solo most things out there. Of course there are some things out there that you cant take (NS elders and Krayts to name a few) but all in all the majority can be taken out.
If you are all about PVP then TK is, IMO, one of the better proffessions. Of course you will always be better with supporting proffessions for defense, healing, and secondary dmj types.
I was straight tk for a long time to see if I could pull it off. I was successful but not overly successful (if that makes sence). I just saw a bigger difference when I picked up some medic, cm, and fencer.
So...if you want to go stand alone tk, I think that is very cool. Its a great test of skill. Just make sure you are prepared with high end armor, the right foods to supplement defenses and mind loss, and a good vk. If you want to up your succes rate, thenpick up another proffession to support your MTK.

I love TKM/MCH and 2 Boxes of Fencer. I do well when dueling and can hunt along int eh wild for hours hunting rares babies. Including Bull rancors and Screechers which have a Nasty Plague Strike. I dont have to worry about finding a doc to cure me.
And I havefun dueling I seem to do better than I think I should against Melee Stackers..

A TK without any other combat skill is certainly viable but also--ironically--highly vulnerable to dizzy/kd and dizzy/posture down attacks.
Now that creatures and NPC's use specials again, this is important in PvE as well as PvP. For example Mokks, Blacksuns,NIghtsisters use dizzy/kd attacks fairly often. Just something to keep in mind.
Add pistoleer and/or fencer state defences to TK and you will have a very strong character.
Also, CH/rifleman makes more sense to me than CH/TK. As a CH/riflemanyou canlet your pets tank and inflict damage from a safe position.

Creatures don't tank all that well against anything, you'll be a better tank then the. I have CH because it's a fun class, not because it's good.
