I've heard many people describe TKM as a "tanking" class.. What makes them so good at shrugging off attacks?

*sigh* I read them... I'm having trouble understanding though, is it the Defensive Acuity or Unarmed Toughness or Melee Mitigation?

yep, we've got almost as much melee and ranged defense as fencers, more toughness, and our defensive acuity, thought not as good as the 105 block/dodge/counter that the other professions get, can work rather well with center of being going.

I've been thinking about taking up commando to supplement TKA. Not being able to do damage in pve can hurt, but with commando you can run up, intimidate, knockdown, switch to a flamethrower and stick 3 Fire DoTs (commando 0040) then switch back toa vibroknuckler and tank it till it's dead. I'm just hoping it's worth the skill points.

All 3. The toughness cuts down the damage that gets past your armour by 57%, the 96% acuity means you have an amazing chance to dodge/counter/block an incoming attack and the mitigation cuts down by 60% the upper limit on attacks that do hit. Put them all together and you have a very, very tough class that's limited in damage output by Light AP. TKM makes a superb NS Elder tank but almost useless for damaging them - I usually just rotate intim/KD2/taunt.

It's the buffs and armor.

Then again they also make tailors great tanks.

Amen to that...

oh and its gotta be our uber defensive acuity too! While centered I Dodge, CA and Block nightsisters, battledroids and and other high end content all the time, while tearing through them with my AP1 weapon.

Anyway, it is the unarmed toughness (only works against melee attacks) that make us good tanks, as well as melee damage mitigation 3 (which master fencers swords and pikes have as well).

TKM for Life.

In TK's case the buffs are less of a factor in my opinion but thats as I know I can tank DWB SBDs & even Gorax's unbuffed. 57-62% natural melee armour stacked with 80% Comp with mitigation thrown in does just meen so little damage. Throw in novice Medic & you can take more of a beating then you want to give Jar-Jar with a sledge hammer. Though I know Buffs are a huge factor in it as well just not the key factor like they are for other proffesions.

I acctuly find it sad that we can tank that well, even unbuffed, to be honnest. I so hope the CU/R/B will do something like stop armour stacking with toughness, or just anything acctuly to stop such things from beign so easy.

I don't believe you tank the Gorax and SBD's unbuffed

Trust me it's true. Each Friday on FarStar theres the Friday Hunt which basicly involves a big group of mixed faction/guild players going on a hunt while drowning themselves in vast amounts of booze, normaly we end up on Endor starting at smugglers & we just go walking. Anyway the week before Christmas we went on a Gorax hunt, we agreed that insted of our normal no armour / no buffs we would do either armour or buffs, which ever the individual person prefered but not both. Anyway I went for my light kinetic armour. I only died once, that was when we managed to agro two & I was trying to drag one of the dead docs to safty. We all died on that one. But many of the Gorax we killed I did most the tanking. I had to heal a fair bit & a dedicated healer kept picking my arse up off the floor when I was dizzy but I don't think I even incaped.

As for SBDs, the DWB ones are very easy to tank, they can go in to melee combat unarmed so do so little damage, one of our hunts was to just go kick in some Ewoks for the sake of it, anyway we ended up at the 0 0 Tree Village & someone draged an SBD in, I tanked while a commando just kept flaming it, it droped in no time. I deffinatly can't tank the Corvette ones though, they just cut though me as they fight ranged. But as a TKM - Master Brawler with light kinetic armour you can tank most things unbuffed as long as you can heal.

But just trust me, I tell the truth, even if it does sound far fetched.
