Thread: Unarmed toughness. Does anybody KNOW if this works?

I just tested this again by logging ontwo of my characters without the complication of synthsteak. Whatever I see in the combat spam of the attacker, is exactly the same as I see in the combat spam of the victom, which is exactly the same as the figure floating above the victim's head. The victim has 57 UT, so what is happening (or not happening as the case might be).

As a bonus, I also used my R3 to attack part of the time and noticed there is NO 75% PvP damage reduction for my Droid. He hits another player in PvP for exactly the same amount as he hits MOBs in PvE.

UT is taken into account in the combat tab - it doesn't work like armor (eg. you get hit for 100 pts of damage but blah blah armor blocked 80pts)

but it does work, you can easily tell by dropping a box and watching the damage you take go up

Thanks Arafel, but, if I am the one shooting and I see, 'you have hit <otherplayer>for 220 points of damage and then I alt tab tomy other characterand see in the combat spam, in red, 'you have been hit for 220 points of damage' and the numbers above my head are also 220, where does this reduction take place?

The only explanation that would make sense is that the reduction occurs before the attacker sees it in their combat spam. In other words, if the attacker sees, 'You have hit <other player> for 220 points of damage', the actual original damage must have been 220/43 * 100 = 511 (at 57 UT).

It doesn't really make sense that UT should be applied before armour and everything else though, UT should be the last reduction in the equation.

It also only works with melee attacks...shooting will not activate the toughness.

Ahh.. I used 'shooting' in the above example but that was after I tested melee and ranged and found no difference whatsoever.

UT works behind the scenes. It is a direct reduction of attacks. For instance, say you get hit by someone who does 1000 points of damage normally. You have 50 UT so you only get hit for 500. The 500 is what shows in the combat spam and what flies over your head. Combat spam does not show how much was reduced. It simply shows the damage taken after the direct reduction. Does that help?

I know the common wisdom that UT decreases damage as a percentage, i.e. 57 UT decreases damage by 57% but that isn't my experience.

As an example, if I am unarmoured and I eat 45% synthsteak, I see the red combat spam, 'You have been hit for 100 points of damage', followed by, '82 points of damage have been mitigated by defensive buffs.' So far, so good. I would, however, expect the remaining 100 to be reduced by 57%, showing a 43 hovering over my head but, what I see is the 100 hovering over my head, i.e. no damage reduction at all.

Could somebody who has actually tested this in combat please comment?
