Thread: Brace Yourselves...HUGE damage nerf on the way

Anyone that has read the second part to the jedi archives probably noticed this little bit of information....

"The lightsaber values of lightsabers have been put in line with the damage outputs of our combat balance values. We have also lowered the maximum potential of crystals and pearls to be more in line with the new scales of the combat system. The numbers may appear to be a bit low to what current Jedi see on their lightsabers now, but don't worry! We will apply behind the scenes values so the new lightsabers will deal the same amount of damage as pre-patch values until we push the combat balance live."

Now that means to me that when publish 9 comes out, jedi will see lower damage valuse on their sabers but the current dmg rates will be applied in the background. No big deal right? Now read the last part of it again "..lightsabers will deal the same amount of damage as pre-patch values until we push the combat balance live".

Sounds to me that all professions will see a damage reduction after the combat balance. If the devs are lowering saber damage SO much that they have to do something in the background to keep up with other profession damage until the balance, that means that all other professions will have to be lowered as well. Lightsaber damage dealing potential should be just about the highest in the game when comared to other professions, if its lowered you can bet everyone else will be too.

Could be blowing one sentence out of proportion but what if im not? If all professions start dealing less damage than they do now, does that mean that armor will be nerfed to compensate for lower damage dealing potential? Will all creatures have resists lowered? Is this the dev response for high end armor and buffs making a player godlike? Are we going to be forced to group again to take on any sizeable mob?

Questions questions and more questions... but one thing is for sure. If TKA's get our damage output lowered, and mobs dont get their resists lowered as well.... the tka better have another profession touse for damage dealing.

Flame on.

With that statement, you're jumping to conclusions really.

All professions will be revamped for damage, every single one. Not just TKA.

You're not blowing one sentance out of proportion - it's been pretty obvious for a while now that the damage output on players is way out of whack.

Remember way back in the Fall of last year - the creatures were all changed to align with the "new balance" that was supposed to take the following three publishes to complete. TH said at the time that the game would be hosed for a while - some things will be much easier than they should be until the balance is complete. Well - that's where we (still) are.

Creatures (with a few exceptions) were bumped a little in HAM and dropped a lot in resists. Players now overpower critters. Now that the final balance is in the offing the player damage potential for all professions will be dropped to line up with those creatures (unless they've got something else in mind - doesn't seem that way given the quote above).

The last statement has a touch of "the sky is falling". We don't know what the full scope of the balance will be.

We will still do Kinetic damage. Current creature kinetic resists are very high. The ability to do different damage types is important now and will be moreso if all damage is lowered. See what i mean?

Im just speculating and bringing this up for discussion cause im at work and bored

I'd prefer grouping to BARELY kill Rancors instead of strapping on my Ubese and pounding away, killing the huge beasts in mere seconds. Don't you find it more fun when the enemies are more challenging and you need to make friends and allies, and use actual group strategy to kill those really tough mobs? Solo'ing is so boring, but, unfortunately, is the main method of hunting these days.

This only works if the missions are worth taking with such a large group of people. It won't help the economy at all to have a drastic reduction in earning power. 37k missions spread amongst 10 players necessary to kill 1 nest of rancors...that's just gonna stagnate the economy as people start hording their $$, and stop buying things.

"We will still do Kinetic damage."

Not completely true, with the new looted VK schematic coming out in Deathwatch Bunker, TKA will also have Heat Dmg in their arsenal.

i think group is boring and annoying when some one decides they want to bring 435983703947043 things to play with

Aaaah that isn't by chance the VK that requires a dropped motor from a night sister that's 100% kinetic resistant is it? hmm problem.

Keep in mind also that the devs are abandoning their old line that Jedi would be "godly" and just outclass the rest of us. I think they're instead making Jedi measurably better than other classes, but not head and feet above the fray as they were once envisioned.

So yeah, they're getting their Sabre damage lowered, and everyone else is having their damage lowered, but I think the hit for Jedi may be harder than for the rest of us... hence the warning from TH.

All of this seems to be in line with the devs acceptance of the fact that there are and will be more Jedi in the game than they initially intended. So they're dumbing the path to Force Sensitivity down a bit, revamping Jedi to be a little weaker than initially intended, and putting a hard cap on the number of truely powerful Jedi allowed in the game.

IMHO, i don't mind balancing, but we all know that when the devs say balancing they mean nerf us so we have to group and take forever to kill something. Isn't it enough we now have to wait almost 1/2 hr when all is said and done to get mind/music buffed(never thought i'd say they stealth nerfed a musician omfg) not to mention 10 mins at the starport. Seems all they wanna do is make things unbearable for us,wait here wait there, where is the fun in playing when all u do is wait?

If you ain't died, you ain't playin' the game...
