im thinking about taking up fencer dodge tree (x,x,4,x) for some dodges, but do i have to be holding a baton to get these dodges to work?

im also a TK, and theres no use having the dodges if i need t hold a fencer weapon because i will not be mastering fencer

That is correct. Dodge only works when wielding a one-handed weapon. Our modifier is Defensive Acuity, which does not stack with anything. However, State Defenses and Ranged and Melee Defense do stack, so it could still be beneficial to add some Fencer.
