Thread: Please give feedback on Composite Armor
Someone recently mentioned getting composite armor. What shoud the Effectiveness/Encumbrance stats on good composite be? And also, is health costs to wear armor really worth it? Someone else also mentioned mixing up armor as a good alternative. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Think the worst one to watch out for is the helm, has massive mind cost. I wear a set of adv.composite (55% to all bar stun and electricity), and its all sliced for HAM. This was the best set I could find unsliced (my previous adv.composite was 44%), though its cost me like 36k each for the head/chest/legs. Think my helm has 212 mind, legs low 100s actionand the chest mid 100s health(not at home so can't give you the exact numbers).
Pretty much reliant on it for PvP now. Stops peps with highly moded FWG5s and gives me a little survivability vs. other weapons. BHers LLCs still hurt lots, and doesn't help much from being eyeshot by scatter pistols.

I am currently wearing a full suit of 43% Composite armor. I had every piece encumberance sliced. ( I had to buy several extras in order to get the slice I wanted). At the very least try and make sure the Chest, Legs and helm are Encumberance sliced above all.
I see a lot of Teras Kasi out there who do not wear armor and it blows my mind(My real life mind hehe). Anyways, while wearing this full suit of composite and adjusting my stats with stat migration I can now tank things twice and sometimes 3 times longer before either having to pull out of heal myself (I am also a doctor).
People freak out when they see their stats drastically lower when they wear armor because of the encumberances but there is no real need for alarm. Yes you have lower stats BUT I also take 43% less damage each hit. And IMO that is a lot. As the previous poster above said they had 55% composite which is even nicer than mine. Yes I am aware of the armor hole in the belt slot... and me being Trandoshan I also have an armor hole on my feet and gloves but that doesn't hurt me much at all.
A few tips I would like to throw out there on using armor:
- If you have any healing abilities make sure you put your helm on your tool bar and take off your helm before you heal anything. Since all encumberances on your armor also affect you secondary stats (I think they actually ONLY affect them I need to verify) taking off your helm which termparily increases your secondary mind stats thus in return lowers the cost of your heals.
- Also because I am a doctor I maxed out all of my mind stats and evened out my health and action stats. I did this because mind is the only non-healabale stat, my healing powers drain fromit and I can heal action and health till my hearts content so long as I still have mind.
- Make a macro for switching between your street clothes and your armor. I have one.. super simple to make and is GREAT for healing and downtime.
- Only wear your armor when you are actually receiving damage and tanking. With the use of hotkeys/macros you can easily switch in and out of armor with the click of a single button.
If you have any other questions about armor please don';t hesitate to ask me. I don't claim to be an expert, I just do a lot of research on it and have a lot of first hand knowledge.
If your a tTeras Kasi and You don't use armor then you are only tapping half of what you are really capable of.
Can you effectively use special moves with composite? Aren't the mind costs prohibitive? I use a Macro's to switch from a composite/chitin armor when I'm using a range, then I macro to some high kinetic resistant armor when I get close ...
I bought two sets of 42% resist composite. Had both sets sliced and kept the loweset encumbrance sliced pieces. Im trandoshan so i have to be in perfect health to equip what pieces i can wear.
after alot of testing, ive found that it works best for me (and my dumb lizard butt) to wear the Helmet, Chest Piece and the Bracers (could wear the bicep pieces instead but i like the look of the bracers over the biceps. Fighting Male Mamiens on Yavin 4, at 2-3-4-3 in the TKA tree.... i take almost no damage. What little i do take is not really worth mentioning. The problem is, I cant do specials and expect to stay standing.... so it takes longer.
So no, i cant do specials with the armor on so it takes longer to kill something. Male Mamiens dont dish out alot of dmg..... so lets look at a Giant Crystal Snake. Cant kill one wearing armor at all. Knockdown causes me to punch myself in the head and slash my wrists open while wearing armor... all the while the Giant Crystal is hitting me hard.
Basically, creatures around your level will take longer to kill since you cant really do specials. youre either wearing the armor and fighting longer, or not wearing armor but having to rest more often. In the end it seems to be just about the samething to me.
Yes you CAN do all your specials while wearing composite armor.
Whenever I am soloing I always lead off by taking my Vibro Knuckle off then hitting them with blind, stun and intimadate. If they are a humanoid NPC I hit them with a dizzy and a single unarmed lunge. After I stick blind/stun/intimidate I put my Vibro Knuckler back on and use Berserk. I do all of this and keep myself healed as well. And when the battle is over with I am still standing with 75% of my mind intact.
And If I am getting into trouble and need some quick damage I use Unarmed Hit 2 or the like, now those are HAM costly so only in emergency situations.
I understand you can't do as MANY specials total with armor on compared to naked but if you can stick your primary specials then what does it matter?
You must be doing something wrong if you can't do specials while wearing it.

You mentioned using Knockdown while wearing armor. No wonder you are having trouble, that is your first mistake. I refuse to use Knockdown but that is my personal choice. A tip for you would be to get one of those dress/undress macros I have mentioned before and take off your armor before you use it. But I should point out that it requires skills to be able to dress/undress , equip/unequip while in combat. So not any Joe Schmoe Teras Kasi will be able to to do all this.
Here is a thread on dress/undress

Any know how to bind a macro to a key?
