Thread: Using pets with TK

I keep seeing posts of people using pets to tank for them.

How do you keep the aggro on the pet? Everytime that I use a pet to tank, the first time I walk up and hit I gain the aggro and take the full brunt of the damage. Sure the pet is dealing a little extra damage but I thought the purpose of using a pet to tank was for them to take the damage while you deal the damage.

Am I missing something in controlling the pet? I usually just issue an attack command and after the pet gets its first hit I storm in and start wailing. All my friends using ranged weapons don't seem to have this problem (ie the target stays on the pet).

It is very depressing when we go out and they can just sic a graul on something and just sit back and shoot at will till it is dead while I am doing the dance of death keeping myself alive (healing every 6 seconds and keeping the target stunned, blinded and intimidated).

Same thing here. When hunting in groups I usually have a CH use his pet to tank. If i walk up and start using specials then the i will get the aggro from the animal that im hitting. However if i just use my normal attacks and don't dothe majority of the damage then i don't get the aggro.

It's a tradeoff that you have to decide on. Do you want to do a lot of the damage and get major XP or do you want to remain unhurt and get minimal XP ?

The key to keeping the aggro on your pet is to attack at your max range. So as a TKA you need to attack at 3.5m-4m from the creature. I am using a Grand Wrix and if I stand near it's rear legs and attack the creature I don't get aggro. What I have seen in this game is that the aggro works based on distance to the creature. Once you get to the point were you don't draw aggro from you pet a lot of stuff becomes easier to to do. I love killing the Hurrton Stalkers on Dantooine (4500 Unarmed, 450 Combat, 840 CH w/ 2 Grand Wrixes per one and 9400 credits per nest).

I agree with Ulialzarn. Stand back, send in the pet, then go in and start attacking at about 3.5-4m and you shouldn't be getting hit. Now for some reason if you attack first, have your pet attack, and then try to back off, the thing you are fighting will keep following you...even though there is basically no hate list in this game. Go figure.

Range is the key - it is easier done if you use a small pet. Big pets tend to be to far back to take aggro.

even better, take off the knucks and back up to 5-7m and spam specials and heal pets and self..no aggro, still good damage, and the added combat xp of healing during battle to help with that pesky 4th tree 8^)

Easier than that. Stand one millimeter behind center mass of your pet. Better yet, stand behind your pet(doesn't work with graul/rancor.. have to be under center). Nothing will ever turn on you. I solo AT-STs like this

Thanks! I knew there had to be something I was doing wrong.

Range is the key evidently.

I do things a little different but seeing these posts I will add it to my techniques.

I usually fight creature I can handle one-on-one. But when these creatures BAF I can get overwhelmed. So I send pet in first, he attackes and everytings agros on her.

I then go it, attack a sigle creature, get agro on that one only. Kill it and move onto the next. If I am not attacking it the pet keeps agro so I can take the critters one on one even if they BAF
