Thread: Dont you just love it when you are AFK and someone kills U!
Yea... well, I happened to be AFK and left the computer to go take care of some stuff (in real life)... When I get back I find out I am dead... I am like **edit**? I check out who killed me and it happened to be the opposing faction that I am against... Now dun get me wrong, I was overt, but I was minding my own business and not doing anything to anyone.... (most likely because I was AFK). So yea I found out who killed me and I asked what was up with that? Given that I was his opposing faction sure I have no problem fighting you... but DUH! I had an AFK above my head! Which means I am not there, so that gives you the right to attack me? Whatever happened to polite and courterousness of asking someone if they want to fight? Whether u are TEF? That just bugs me about people who play this game and have no respect. And of course the excuse is "Well don't be overt". Which hey yea i get your point but I think u missed mine... I was AFK which means that even when I get attacked I do auto defend, but still that is just still shooting fish in a bucket, because I was basically defenseless and could not accurately react to how I was being attacked. And to makeit even morelame forthe situationthattook place... I am a melee fighter and the other guy was a gun fighter. So as a melee fighter I will stillauto defend myself, but I dont go chasing after who ever isshooting at me. (You see my point?) So if you want to flame me all over this board go right for it, but it just goes to show how immature you are about this topic and killing people when they arent even around to defend themselves....
"sigh"

I remember reading in history about the courteous and polite Nazi soldiers who, when encountering a sleeping soldier of the Allied Force, decided that it would probably be best to wait until he wakes up and ask him if he would like to fight.
They were nothing like this... this... barbarian you speak of.

You being overt gives someone else the right to attack you. You being AFK is unimportant. You could mark yourself as AFK, just stand there and wait to have someone attack you unbuffed going for the easy kill, andyou could be fully buffed w/ food & drugs and toast them. They would have no right in complaining that you weren't supposed to fight back because you were marked as AFK. Don't whine because you were too lazy to logout.
No offense, but if you are overt and AFK you are just asking to get killed. It is not smart (trying hard to be nice). If you are overt you are most definitely not minding your own business as it is a signal to all other overts in the area that you are looking to fight. Anyone can put AFK above their head and it doesn't mean they are really AFK.
this reminded me of people getting pissed off in Quake III when you type you have that chat bubble over you head and people used to get pissed because you would frag em while they were 'talking'. Less talking more killing. Don't go afk while you can be killed and the quote listed above about the soldier waiting til they wake up is a perfect example.
Not only that, but I see loads of PvPers running around with (AFK) above their heads all the time. People put that on and then go kill stuff so they can complain when someone kills them "Dewd, I wuz AFK!". Uh, sure buddy, so was I.
If you're overt, you're fair game. There are people who choose to follow their own code of conduct in PvP as far as load killing, med-center/cantina fighting, etc. But if you're overt and leave your computer, you should expect to be dead when you come back.
I have had this happen to me more than once. Usually I can't log out quickly enough because the phone rings, or I need to do something quickly. The only person that I blame when this happens is me, as I shouldn't expect the enemy to miss out on an open, juicy target. Just grin and bear it...
Actually the /logout is the timeout. /afk is if you have the time and the oportunity to leave the keyboard. Overt status means you're prancing around going "*opposing faction*'s are stupid and I rock, bring it on!" That is NOT a good time to leave the keyboard and you know it.
I'd be like being trying to make the dev's heal me and teleport me back to the location i was at because a mob 'cheated' and killed me while I was AFK.
