renged and melle defense what do they do lessen your pain or do they increase you chances of getting hit

it makes u get hit for less, from what I read this should be right, a melee def. of 50 would make a hit that would normally take 100 points, only get u for 50. so its a percentage of protection u have

melee and ranged def only up the chance for a miss, they dont reduce damage.

here is the question..

do the defense mods also work when you have other weapons in hand..

ie.. if you change to hold a pistol.. will the defense mods that affect dodge still work..

or if you are using vibros.. can you dodge because you got it from pistol line

As far as I've been told defenses are universal EXCEPT CoB and Toughness wich are proffession exclusive.
