Thread: Do you keep or loose vk when you get lvl 4 power?
i am not as far along the path as some. i am 2/2/2/2 at the moment. i am trying to play the class as balanced as i can (though i think now that i may climb the meditation tree first, not sure) buti am also 99.9% PvE and not PvP with my TK character so ido have a suggetstion or two
first armor DOES in fact effect the HAM cost of specials. you see the more strength points, quickness points and focus points you have, the less each special costs in HAM. armor reduces these points when you have it on. somewhere in the official FAQs about the game it even states that you should not wear armor all the time as it effects your HAM...you can try this out yourself by watching the numbers that float offover your head. do it with something small like a gorg or a gubber so there is no confusion as to what numbers are floating off you. put your armor and VKs on and do something like unarmed hit 2. then take OFF your armor and VKs and do the same move to another critter and watch a MUCH smaller number float off you. you will even notice it with healing. if you heal yourself with a mind heavy composite helm on, you will notice the mind cost of a simple stim heal is outragous! all of that to say i would suggest that you only use your armor when you REALLY need it. you can rely on powerboost and Doctor buffs (if you want them. i have never used them before) to keep you standing as you advance through the profession
second, as i understand it, when you reach master level you are at the speed cap for attacking with or without knucklers, SO the only time you would need to use them would be for the added damage when you are just bashing a lair and do not need to use specials. at 2/2/2/2 i still use my knucklers all the time because the HAM cost on them is still balanced by the extra damage they do, but i understand why someone at the master level may opt to discard them.
third, it is entirely up to you. as you said the profession is extreemly personal and is played different by every player. un-like the blast and run professions, TKA requires a tatical, thoughtful approach to gameplay or you find yourself looking up at the sky thinking "well THAT s*cked..." you need to find what works best for your personal style of play. there is no one "right" or "best" way to play the class. it is flexible and fun!
Until you're Master, the best thing to do is Buff, buy lots of food to boost your mind, focus and willpower (Or just take Muon Golds.) and keep you VK's.
Heck you could even wear armor if you want if you're going against NPCs with guns.
But I went fromNovice Brawler 0-0-0-0to Teras Kasi Master in 1 week using my VK's, buffing, Muons and never leaving Dantooine. I just kept hunting Pikets and Voritors non-stop with groups until I was halfway into my TKA skills to solo on my own.
I typically use my VKs most of the time even at master. They do maybe 30% or so extra damage over my fists (167 max dam on the VKs - nothing special just damage sliced). When I'm fighting easy creatures, I dont usually bother. However, if I'm fighting harder stuff or missioning for cash then speed of killing is very important and 30% extra damage means 30% faster!
I amalways doctorbuffed and withmax Mind/Focus,my VK costs maybe 25ish mind with UH3. However, I typically pop a+300 focus 12 min Rhyscate (200cr a use) which drops the mind cost to 6 or 7 a hit .....
I always use my VK's. They're 190 max and do quite a bit more damage, on average, than without them. I don't use a lot of specials because I also wear Ubese armor. I can stand and solo most any creature in game. It may take me a bit longer without spamming specials, but I never die to creatures. Only thing that will kill you at master is Krayt or Nightsister equivalent.
It all depends on your play style. I'm almost all PvE, so good Ubese and VK's let me do everything I want to do.
