Thread: VK versus non VK

Ok, so I used to be a TKM a long time ago, then I became a master shipwright, then I quit for like 3 months and now I'm back. I respeced last night to TK and played around a littel and found that I can do 2 times the damage without VK then I could with. So, I respeced again today to get back to Master BE (which leaves me about 20k short of my 1st skill box in TK)so I can practice making pets with the CU system. Let me tell you, no one has room to complain about how screwed up things are compared to a pet making BE, but that's another story...


So I was out sampling Ronto which are a level lower than me. One attacked me after it got annoyed at me poking it too much with needles. I started by knocking it down and bringing up center of being. It's first hit did 89 points of damage to me, and all others after, while COB was up did 44. Fine, just like intimidate. Anyway, I knew this from last night. So I was hitting this beast for like 134 points a hit unarmed. The COB ran out and I decided to play around a little. I equiped my VK and I started doing like 300 points a hit, but the Ronto's damage went up to 145 points a hit. Why does this happen?


My level did not change at all, I just started to do more damage. I suppose that the easy answer is that this is to help the Ronto compensate for the damage I do. Well, the Ronto's compensation allowed him to easily stomp me into the ground, given that attacks are slow enough that I do 300 points in the same time period it takes the Ronto to do 290. Fine, if I had center of being up, I'd do 300 points in the time that the Ronto does 144. Given the Ronto's hp, at 2699, I'd have to hit him 9 times to kill him. In the space that I hit him 9 times, he hits me 18 and I am still gum on his shoe.


Anyway, I rinsed and repeated and this time I had VK on before I fought. I won the battle because the Ronto was back to doing 89 points a hit. So I tried again unarmed and switching to VK in a fight and the same thing happened, 89 was raised to 144. So, has anyone else noticed strange stuff happeneing when they mess around with weapons? Don't know that anyone would mess with VK as TKM since (last night, at least) unarmed damage does so much more than VK at that level. Just figured I'd throw this out there for anyone who is tooling around in TK and doesn't know about this.

my difference is that armed with a Blaster VK (max 502dmg) or even pre-CU VK (max 487dmg) I can hit a level 82 Imperial Medic for 187-230damage

With my bare hands i hit for about 350-580 damage.

As for how much they hit me; sorry wasnt tat observant....just wanted them down...

I haven't played much with TKA post CU and have been playing around with respec.I too hit harder without VK and also hit harder with just /attack than with any of the TKA specials, am I missing something?

If at all possible, get a Weaponsmith to make some CU weapons for you. The Blaster Fist works alot better than the VK's and it doesn't sacrifice your attack speed as much as fighting un-armed does.

What I have noticed when playing asa TK is how using a weapon affects your attack speed. The damage was comparable unarmed and with vibroknucklers, but the attack speed while equipped was nearly twice as fast. However, by equipping a weapon I now used action and mind points every time I did a special compared to not losing anything at all while unarmed. I did not pay close enough attention to notice an increase in the damage done to you while equipped or unequipped, but I will look at that soon.

Well, I tried to look for a WS who happened to be selling Blaster Fist two days ago when I was playing, but no luck. All I found was folks selling VK and my pre CU VK are better than anything I've seen on a vendor so far. Is this (the Blaster Fist) something I'll likely have to order from a WS?


Also, I (at least with the VK I have) have not noticed and signifigant speed difference between unarmed and VK. It seems as though for every 2 creature attacks I get one attack no matter if I have VK on or not. However, this may be because I have pre CU VK and the translation to post CU screwed them up with speed. Is it true, though, that equipping a weapon will make you faster? Actually seems kinda lame, I figure logically you would be slower if you had a weapon, but logic and SWG don't mix very well sometimes...

Yes, I don't think Weaponsmiths are crafting them in mass lots yet. I had to get my Blaster Fist special ordered from a weaponsmith.


Equiping any unarmed weapon (VK, BS, MK, RK) will increase your attack speed. As for creatures, they are still borked as they still attack every second like in the old system. And you are right, it is very lame but what else can we do?

I dunno about other servers, but on Ahazi theres plenty of Blaster Fists out there on vendors, just do a galaxy wide vendor search for em on the bazaar.

Here's the break down coming from a TKM, level 64 (some swords) equipping a Blaster Fist, pre-CU Vk, and open handed, attacking same level gurks. DISCLAIMER: Your weapon damage resultsmay vary due to quality of the weapons themselves. My Blaster Fist has a 383.6 dps, VK 156.3 dps and I have no idea what the DPS is supposed to be for TKM, open handed.


Melee Strike


BlasterF: 417 dmg


VK: 226 dmg


OpenH: 363 dmg



(Improv'd)Critical Hit


BlasterF: 817 dmg*


VK: 414 dmg*


OpenH:523 dmg*


*approx values



Head Hit


BlasterF: 515 dmg


VK: 286 dmg


OpenH: 407 dmg



Leg Sweep


BlasterF: 371 dmg


VK: 204 dmg


OpenH: 263 dmg



RESULTS: Blaster Fist does significantly more damage than my pre-CU damage sliced knuckers, every time. Overall, the Fist out-damages my open hand attacks (likely due to it being energy vs. kinetic) except when it comes to actually damage to a lair. I get a significant increase in damage to lairs, open handed!!. Also, remember everyone, that Knucklers do ENERGY damage, a good thing to have when facing another Melee person in PvP who is wearing ASSAULT armor. If you are attacking a RANGED in RECON, UNEQUIP your knuckler and go bare hands for KINETIC damage.


Also, it is important to note that with either knuckler, your "timer" refresh rate will be much faster but you WILLUSE action and mind on specials. With my Blaster Fist equipped, I am nearly twice as fast. I hope you find this useful.
