Hey all... I actually haven't played since January, just logged back in and was kinda lost with all of this CU / respeccing! Anyway, I'm reading up and learning alot. My question is back before I stopped playing I was a master TKA and master rifleman with some medic and scout thrown in there. I think my rating was 62 or something along that line.

I was thinking, "hmm, maybe I shouldn't respec." Here's my thinking, I have powerful rifles for ranged attack, then melee when the mob runs up on me. Now, I haven't even tried out combat with the new system, but this template just sounded logical; best of both worlds.

Does this make sense? or just the new CU blow my concept away?

I think it would work decently for PvE, maybe not the best tanking template, but quite decent -- and you'd have points for 4x3x Medic aswell, which will help. If you think you'd enjoy it I say go for it; if you learn to kite well you should be able to whittle most mobs down well enough to take them down in melee.

Do note however that the CU kind of discourages mixing like this; you'd have a better kiting template with MRifle/MCarbineer and a better tanking template with TKA/MPole for instance - but that said, it's all about how you want to play, and played right most templates can be made to work.

i agree The CU does not allow much in the ways of hybrid surviving in both PvE and PvP, however there are some combinations that work, i have heard good things about TKM/Master Rifles, however my thinking on hyrids are they cost too many points to be effective in combat due to their lack of healing abilties, in the CU even in group it takes a doc or two to keep a whole group alive in high level situations, it makes it easier on yourself in combat to incorporate doctor or medic into your template before actually deciding your template, i have been everything from a triple melee, to a ranged master, to a hybrid and back again, and for hybrids the best combo i saw didnt incorporate healing (hurt in so many ways i cant even say), I did Tkm/ Master pistoleer/ Smuggler 4020 and i had FS Melee Defense tree, i was able to solo high level content with that template, however i did hurt for heals, and when i tried to switch it became more difficult then i thought was worth going for, while it was fun and PvE is possible with it, im afraid the abilties lack in a PvP situation and there are many more competitive templates if you stick to one class of fighting, i am in no way trying to discourage cross class templates, because i enjoyed mine very much so, however i just dont see the utility in it, it is fun and can be done, although i cannot say i recommend it for certain situations, but play how you will, just try everything out, a little harder without respec, but when the frogs are up on the TC its easier, good luck deciding man, just remember TKM owns

I think that hit the nail on the head.

just not sure about hybrids thats all they are fun, and i wish they could work, but they just arent as strong
