Thread: Dizzy/Knockdown change question

If Dizzy is removed (on NPCs/AI/Mobs) as soon as they try to stand, and they stand immediately on knockdown/posturedown, what is the point of dizzy at all outside pvp?

Back when I first got unarmed dizzy and could (sometimes) get an advantage by dizzying a two-legged opponent, and posturing them down twice (with the high cost, 1 damage posturedown unarmed lunge) it was useful. I have no idea why nothing that wasn't humanoid ever had it work on them.

Now that I'm a growing TKA, it irritates the heck out of me that I can knock down an NPC for a heartbeat (but no longer), and it's irrelevant if they've been dizzied or not. There's now an entire condition that only matters to PCs. So there's now a set of commands (posture, knockdown, dizzy) that are fundamentally PVP only, despite the professed intent of the systme being equally applicable to PvE or PvP... Am I missing something? Is there any point at all to Dizzy beyond trying to run up to an already prone/kneeling NPC (that way because they chose that posture) and trying to stick it on them before they stand up? Being melee only, not sure I see the point considering the inherent problems on closing with targets.

I'm going to have to agree. I did use dizzy for awhile but the benefits are VERY rare that it will work on a mob. I've changed my favored debuff to stun. The screaming squill has helped reduce many a torton to a quivering mound of pulp.

my only issue with this is that dizzy will put me flat on my back at leat 5 times if i get hit with it from a npc/mob of any kind... why then should they be all but imune to it? calling it an exploit while letting the npcs exploit it is going a lil to far

Just out of curiosty ...

I am a TKM but for some reason if i get a dizzy shot i land on my butt, and am down for quite a while every time i stand up i fall on my butt again. Then if i survive it seems that i have to wait almost a minute for dizzy to wear off so i can mediate.

Do our balance conditioning stats work properly? I heard some talk about defensive stats not working but i was not sure if that was fixed yet or not.

Oh and one other thing, does it seem weird to anybody else that a tk novice can KD a TK master?

The bottome line is this: SOE discovered that a lot of their player community has an extreme negative reaction to being forced to be flat on their back for half the fight. So they are basically phasing that out of the game. I really can't say I disagree - the few times I've been hit with dizzy and been unable to get back up I was unbelievably pissed, its not fun to feel like you can't go down figthing.

My only issue is that they need to replace skill of ours that no longer have a purpose with skills that do. For example the need to replace knockdown with some kind of a hindering ability that doesn't necessarily keep an oponnent from fighing, but does keep him from being able to flee for a good ammount of seconds - some kind of a huge snare or something like that where it would be suicide for a perosn to keep trying to run away and they would be forced to stand and fight. The also need to replace Dizzy with something useful - maybe something like the commando ability where we do massive wound damange over time or something (actually I think that's what the "combo moves" should do since they don't do anything useful right now. Let them start doing massive damange to certain pools or something.

I'm not saying I have all the best ideas, I'm just saying that I really don't mind if SOE phases certain thigns out of the game but they need to replace those skills with something that actually does something. Right now, KD, Dizzy and Combo 1 and 2 need to be changed to do something that matters. This is not a hate filled rant. I love TK and it is totally fun just as it is, but this would make it... even better

another angle is that in melee PVP the outcome of the battle is many times determined by that first hit and and a tka with a 1.6 sliced vibro is almost always guaranteed the first hit

if you are TKM and you connect with KD2 followed with another dizzy and you lose then you are seriouly doing something wrong

Dizzy and KD2 are broken or disabled or what ever because of the 30 second timer. It doesn't work really anymore period

just b/c there is a timer doesnt mean its broken

dizzy is not affected by the timer

you can still dizzy even if you dont connect with the KD

sometimes you can hit with KD2 and the object isnt dizzy and pops right back up

wuts yer point?

I'd like to point out that any logic around 'people don't like spending the fight on their back' does NOT apply to this Dizzy mechanic. Why? Because it works fantastically on PCs, period (whether an NPC does it to you, or a PC does it to you, or you do it to another PC). Likewise dizzy followed by ANY knockdown or unwanted posture change.

I'd favor a 'kneecap' move that hobbled movement speed significantly, or a dizzy that made them take more damage (much like stun's supposed to lower defenses, and intimidate lowers their damage output, if dizzy helped them take more damage? fine)...

But the idea that these changes are in reaction to PvP issues is laughable, since the changes -do not apply to pvp-.
