Hey all. I have seen some people post in here that just sound awesome at PVP. so i thought i would toss some questions your way.

How do u take on a ranged person as TKM? i mean if they run you cannot hit them right?

I have decided to go MCM along with TKA (0,3,3,3) ... how do TKA fair in PVP?

TKA is all about tactics. You will not beat some one in the open if they see you coming. I have PK'ed some on rare occasions in the open, normally when I see them fighting with some one from a distance and as they are walking up to DB I am burst running at them. By the time they notice me coming up from behind it is to late. Other then that the only way you have a chance in PvP as a TKA is indoors or by surprise. If it is outdoors and they see you they will kite you to death.

TKA is more about tactics then targeting with a gun and running (which is what you will get from any ranged person). If you don't mind the odds and are careful about choosing your prey PvP can be fun and rewarding. I will never forget the day that I killed a Master Commando when I was a 0,0,0,0 TKA. How did I do it? Not by surprise, but by tactics (after which I got a rather nice compliment from him).

If your opponent has a head start in open terrain, they can kite you all day long. However, you can use terrain, tactics anda little trickery to close the distance.

First of all, if you have any marksman skills at all, put on your novice marksman title. People don't run from you nearly as much if they don't know you're a TKA. Otherwise, put on a scout title or something else like that. ATM, I use "guardsman" as my title. I've also found that it helps to avoid the typical TKA clothing (sunguard + duster/cloak). People will keep away from you regardless of your title when you run around dressed like that.

Furthermore, unless you're in wide open terrain, you can break line of sight and use corners to your advantage. The very last thing you should ever do is run after a fleeing marksman. It's a loosing battle. You can run the other way and duck behind something to stalemate the match if you like, which may frustrate your opponent into coming too close and making a mistake. Remember that things like hills and mountains don't actually break line of sight. Cities are particularly good places for TKAs to PvP. Also, don't forget about burst run.

Take a couple shots with a rifle (even if you don't have the cert) and then duck inside a building. People love rushing riflemen. "Come into my web" said the spider to the fly.

Finally, there is no shame in using suppression fire to pin your enemy long enough to close. Remember that TKA is not your whole character. Combining TKA with some low-level marksman skills can significantly enhance your success rate.

There is no doubt that in general, melee classes are at a disadvantage compared to ranged classes in PvP. This is not likely to change, but may get a bit better as they buff melee classes' tanking abilities.

One other thing to consider:
Latency favors ranged attacks.

If you're in big pvp, 10+ people, the lag is a big issue.
The server will not accurately report yours or your opponents' position, and you will frequently be 'out of range' even when the animations show as being on top of one another. The reason this helps ranged attackers? A rifle or carbine can shoot for the duration while the server figures out your relative positions. A vk is only useful once the opponent is within 5m. So if the server lags and suddenly poofs the bad guy into your range... he's been able to shoot at you for the 5 rounds it took to straighten things out, while you got that stupid red spam that should read 'Target out of range, clone activation requested.' Also, whether it's popular here or not yet, there is a technique common to these games called 'bouncing' and it preys on latency. I'm sure that if they moved up the melee and unarmed ranges to say 10m, that it might look goofy but it would indeed cover the latency issues more handily.
As previous posters stated, get some ranged skills. My only big-battle kill came from a carbine hit, and I'm 0-1-0-1 Carbineer, master TKA.

Gaundi,

Heavy and the others are right. It's all about tactics. Cm might be an interesting choice indeed. I'm master doc and TK and I'm a definate "Spider". I make them play my game or no game at all...but 99% of people will play anything once they've started the fun.

In big cities, med centers are you friends...You can heal wounds if you can there, and best part is the short, narrow corridors...hard for them NOT to be in your "death zone" in there. It's great. Your poison/diseases will definately come in handy, and you'll have the perfect counter to that if they use the same tactics. Meditate.

Sounds like you're on the road to some great fun. I hope you enjoy it as much as many of us have.

Good Journey.

valkari you should know better then that!

ya i know we can do well in the right instances, but its my impression that any tactics we do need to be better planned better performed and have more percision to our attack, then somone else.

part of the over all apeal i guess to the class. played well it can perform, but to play well requires higher input on your enviorement from the user behind the computer.

I've been having an absolute BLAST PvP'ing lately. I think it all depends upon attitude. If fight peeps who are actually having fun, that makes a world of difference. Last night in Theed some rebels and I (along with several from my PA, TWR) had a GREAT time fighting Imperials. They killed us, we killed them. NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON whined or complained. In fact several of us were joking around with one another. Fun is the key. Let go of the personal vendetta's and the incessant need to "ownzor" someone and you will probably have a blast.

Oh, and dealing with ranged users is fun. Unarmedlunge2 is great, and the suggestions above hit the nail on the head. As much as it sucks, don't ever wear your TKM title in PvP (or any melee title for that matter).I don't wear a title at all and usually run around with a carbine or pistol equipped, hehe.
