Thread: Armor: Ubese or Comp?

Working my way up to TKM. 2/2/4/2 right now, should be done within a week at the rate I play. I plan on keeping it with my Master Ranger and hunting a lot of creatures.
My question is do I go with a suit of Ubese or Composite Armor? I've noticed that I can usually find about 70% Kinetic resists on a set of Ubese but about 80% on a set of Composite.
Any help greatly appreciated.

In most situations Ubese is perfectly adequate as PvE armor. It's a lot cheaper so you can burn through it without paying out the nose for new stuff, and it's HAM's are a fair bit lower.
It's only in some situations that composite might be a better choice. Tanking a krayt the extra 10-20% kinetic resistance might be worth using composite for. Fighting somewhere where you expect to take a fair bit of non kinetic damage (the warren is a good example, or doing faction missions), composite might be better for it's high base resists.

I carry around a set of both and have two armor switch macros. Usually I will use ubese or no armor at all, but it's very nice to be able to slap on that composite when I see shots coming in.

I also use no armor at all or Ubese(low encumbrance 57% kinetic resist set). But, I do want to pick up a set of Composite(max kinetic resists) for those times when I'm buffed and am either going up against something with ranged attacks, or simple something extremely powerful when I need all the defense I can manage.
If you are just doing PvE though, Ubese or no armor at all will be what you use the most

Depends on what you are fighting. For most casses Ubese is more than good enough. Many times only the jacket is needed.
For Nym bases, canyon corsair, blood razor, pirate,grassland raiders or ... a mid-lvl composite is better (65% electric, 55% base)
For nightsister or singing clan whatevers, a very high resist composite (75%+ elect/kinetic/energy. 70%+ base), buffs, brandy, muon, etc.

I use full comp ... 80 kin / 77 base / 79 elec / 39 stun .. but I use ubese leggings @70% because the ham cost, and legs dont take too many hits, watch your combat screen ... it seems to work nice

I actually experimented with this earlier in the week. If you're working your way up the TK tree, Ubese will work better for you. Especially if you are not going out buffed all the time. The low HAM costs and decently high Kinetic resists make it a good armor for melee combat. But as been said earlier, if you are going to be going up against ranged opponents, Composite armor is what you want. I typically keep a chest piece of each so I don't have to worry about it.
Since you are going to keep your Master Ranger and hunt creatures, I would suggest a good Ubese jacket for you. Let us know how it turns out.

simple,
for pve use your ubese
pvp use composite
your ubese is enough for most pve and you wont be messing up yer nice composite against monsters

Went and bought a set of 80% Kinetic Composite armor with a 64% Base. Encumbrance is huge (I still need it sliced).
Still looking for a set of Ubese. I'm thinking I'll go with the general trend of thought and save the Composite for PvE and NPCs.

Id say for pve ubese and comp for pvp
But i only use my adv comp with encum slice it has 80% Kentic dam protection , 69% The rest it also has Stun Damage

I say it depends on what you mainly plain on fighting to work your way further up. If your mainly doing npc missons... Comp... cause your going to be dealing with some that will come at you with melee and some that can be ranged and attacksvary depending on weapon/style the npc is fighting with. Now if your going mainly animals... ubese but you still need to be careful.. as some animals have ranged attacks which from what I've seen has mainly been acid spit?.... You would be seeing hits as small at 10... then one decides to stay at a distance and spit.. and your now see250 points damage in the same nice ubese suit. I would recommend finding a nice ubese suit and taking down targets that dont spit... That way you get the better protection without burning as big of a hole in your bank account. Also depending on your stats you wont have to get buffed to put on the ubese. But if money and getting buffed isnt a problem... find a good comp. suit!
