Thread: Adding a ranged attack to TKA?

I'm working on Teras Kasi Novice myself, but already I have seen the frustration of trying to catch up with a kiting mob. I have been reading the frustration on the forums of many a TKA. I had an idea that I think would fit with the TKA character and still allow for a "fix" to the kiters.

Allow TKA to have a single ranged attack, like a "Shuriken Throw" or "Bolo Throw." These are both weapons that martial artists throw, so would stay in-character. But instead of having these deal damage, make them snare and/or posture-down whoever you target. This way you can toss a shuriken at someone, and have them drop to their knees in pain, while you catch up. Or the bolo could wrap around their legs and snare them so they're either immobilized, or they move back to old-school Jax speed.

Maybe allow Teras Kasi Novice to gain Meditate and Throw Weapon. Then allow the throw weapon skill to improve maybe along the same chain as meditate. If they made these weapons "charge" weapons, then TKAs will have to go back to weaponsmiths constantly for restocking their supplies.

Questions, thoughts, comments, or concerns? I'd like some input!

Until blasters shoot through trees, buildings, and rocks, you have nothing to complain about. Play smarter, not harder.

I agree I don't think we need a ranged attk. We need the game fixed to stop shots from passing walls and hills. We also need the can't hit while moving and the delay between when we do stop and the computers synch to be fixed.

I personally love the extra damage we have gotten. 200 unarmed damage at master TK.

Collidable objects are not always within the field of play. And what--should I hide behind the building waiting for the marksman to come around the corner and face me brawling? If I stop behind a collidable object, that marksman is not going to approach me. He's going to back up to about 40m (or 60 if he's rifleman) and then start coming around in a wide circle.

The only way this tactic will work is if the marskman is an idiot.

Instead of trying to flame my post (which wasn't really a complaint, but an idea), how about responding to the actual idea.

You do have a ranged attack. You can pick a pistol, carbine, or rifle. Teras Kasi Mastery still leaves you with 110 skill points. Use them.

Oops .. Teras Kasi leaves you with much more than 110 skill points. It only costs 92 points, leaving another 158. You could even be a master Commando and still have points to spare.

There is a reason why we have skill sets and not pre-defined classes. Learn to compliment your weaknesses with other skill lines.

Ehogack) Hide behind your rock or tree as long as you want. But as soon as that pet/AT-ST owner gives the word, you're dead. Also, due to latency issues, generally when YOU go behind a rock or whatever, players can still shoot you for a few seconds.(Which is more time than any strong player needs to kill you)

Please nerf TKA's! I just one hit incap'd myself again with knockdown!

If I wanted to flame you, I would have actually tried. I would have called you a blubbering idiot who didn't know how to fight. Or I would have called you a masocist who chased after marksmen for the fun of it. Or I would have called you just plain dumb.

Did I do that ? No. I merely pointed out that instead of adding a ranged attack to a melee class, which isn't going to happen, you should do what the devs, and I, want you to do: LEARN HOW TO FIGHT. If you chase people who are shooting blasters at you, and you're not shooting at them, something is wrong with you. I never, ever, ever fight in the open without a pet that cannot be outrun. I never, ever chase blaster kiddies. Then again, they never live past 10 seconds within my range. I've kept an AT-ST at bay for 5 minutes, merely by letting it aggro on me and keeping a building between it and I. My group got numerous kills in that time, seeing as how I was occupying most of the Imperial firepower at that stage in the fight. Sure, I wasn't getting kills. But neither were the Imps, which is just as important.

Tactics are very important in fighting. Teras Kasi is not about running around fighting stuff. It's about picking your battles anddestroying your opponent as quickly as possible.

I could be wrong though, after all, I was just trying to flame you, right?

Lucky for us there are plenty of idiot marksmen. I've had riflemen follow me into small buildings before trying to kill me (oh I'm sorry, were those your lungs I just ripped out?).

But yeah, LOS is completely borked, and it's one of the things people are REALLY starting to hate combat medics on my server for (AE mind poison with no 75% damage reduction and thrown through walls? EXPLOIT! [no, not exploit, crappy LOS, FIX IT!])
