Thread: TKM/Rifleman Question Here: Armor VS Jedi

Hi,

I am a TKM/M Rifleman/M Brawler/Fencer. I like to get a good bit of PvP in now and then in small groups. I know that armor is required for PvP with regular classes, and I have a couple really nice sets of it. What I want to know is this:

Since armor has no help to lightsaber, wouldnt it make more sense to just take it off before fighting a Jedi? I know in some situations its impossible to waste the time of taking it off, but if I were helping a BH on his mission or if I were dueling a jedi, it would make more sense to just take my armor off, wouldn't it?

Let me know what you think.

Yes and no. More often than not Jedi have a wagon train of Jedi fanboys grouped with them and will attack you meaning you'll need the armor. If you're sure they're solo then remove the armor but at least wear some hawtpants. Killing Jedi while wearing hawtpants is the true mark of the master.

I recently posed this question to my guild and was surprised by the answer I got. Was told that, even though the LS goes through the armor hole, since a LS has med ap, and armor has a light ap rating, that the damage done is reduced still. Now, i have not been able to test this theory yet, so it could be totally borked, but it makes sense if ya think about it.

I have only fought a Jedi once when I was buffed and unarmored. The Jedi was alone, so i didn't have to worry about any gank squad. I remember that this question was asked a while ago, but I PvP so rarely, I wasn't paying total attention. As i recall, there was something about since the armor was coded to have no resistance to a light saber, you take take more damage because the armor takes precedence over attributes/mods. Not wearing armor leaves the toughness factor in, but removes the rule that "armor must absorb damage first." I think the conclusion is, that you actually take less damage while fighting a Jedi with armor unequipped.

Now I know that was the must un-eloquent paragraph ever, so if someone could state that in a better fashion, or tell me if that's totally incorrect, I'd appreciate it

Taking off armor is QUITE quick actually, if you just replace it with clothing. Instead of removing armor, i wear pants, shoes, duster and gloves, which leaves only my helmet on, and takes < 1 second. You can also have some decent BE stats added to the clothing, which could help with the jedi.

Whether your armored or not armroed makes no difference in how much damage a jedi does to you. When you have a piece of armor that is vulnerable to a particular dmg type, any time your hit with that dmg its like being hit nude. Armor just does not come into play.

The only thing armor effects with concern for jedi's is your regen rates. Most people get like an extra 1k in secondary stats by removing they're armor. And that alone can actually be a big help particuarrly on that mind bar.

To summarize:

If you are sure the jedi are alone or you are dueling them, take the armor off.

If the jedi are grouped with someone or you think they might be, leave iton.

um... you will (in all the encounters i have had with jedi, which are many) always be better off wearing no armor EVEN with a couple fanboys trailing along when facing jedi. The regen rates make a HUGE difference, in fact, when i was at full strength (i.e. not mostly full from a recent death and especially when im mind buffed) i cant recall losing a duel to a jedi. I know quite a few who are either masters or simply switching some of their templates around, but are almost complete.

In short, when dealing with jedi, the only time one should wear armor is when there are 3+ other guys with them who are NOT jedi (otherwise you are going to easily die to the jedi's lightsaber which btw is not stopped by armor in the least (if the armor had LS resists, which none has, then it would work against you because of light ap)).

Seeing what has been posted so far, I think I will try my hand at just wearing armor while I fight jedi. If i make a jedi friend, I will test out the theory that armor does help even against jedi.

Thanks for the replies I have gotten so far!
