Hi I'm currently wanting to change professions from pistoleer to TK and I was wondering how long does it take to grind to TKM. I like pistols but hate how long the grind takes. I read the stickies and was wondering if this is the technique everyone uses or if there is another way. Any advise for a newbie?

Thanks

Wonderful advice! I agree that it is slow right now working on Unarmed IV but hopefully I can get me a good set of VK and move up quick. I currently have Comp armor, should I trade it in? Everyone I talk to that is a TKM swears its the best class in the game. I'm sold!

Thanks again

You're just fine with Composite, actually is better because some creatures have ranged attacks (don't ever use Ubese against Voritors) which go thru the Ubese like if it was paper (Acid damage probably). The only issue you're gonna have after you get enough speed is that your mind is gonna drain quick even with brandy, so I recommend you to either get Musician buffs, or eat Ahrisa. Spices like Muon Gold or Grey Gabaki are another alternative if you can't get afford Ahrisa.

The key to the early unarmed steps are: Speed Sliced VK. Use one even if you're not certified, you get the speed bonus.

I actually just finished the unarmed grind and am novice TK now. I've done pistoleer (not to master) and swordsman (to master) and I can honestly say that unarmed grind is the worst (with the exception of the current Image Design grind which is complete and utter hell).

I burned through my ubese jacket pretty much instantly, so yeah, composite may be the way to go - I'm actually a big fan of "mix and match" for encumbrance purposes.

I think, though, that pistoleer is much slower at the higher levels - I'm finding TK to be flying by compared to when I did pistoleer. Just get over the unarmed "hump" and it will be smoother sailing from there.

Gurks are pretty good (no idea how vulnerable they are to kinetic, I just happened to be in a group hunting them and I didn't really have a say about what creature we should hunt), but you really have to watch out for kimos (I got dismounted by a stormtrooper into a big fat kimo lair, which was... not fun.)

Good luck and just remember that it will be long and boring to get novice.

EDIT: get brandy. Lots of brandy. Stat migrate if possible. That should hold your mind steady using the vk's.

That is perfect. That puts my mind at ease. When working on pistoleer I noticed the grind was very slow so I switched to unarmed and noticed the grind is just as slow. I feel better knowing that it is slow up to novice then it gets faster. I would have hated to end one slow profession only to start over on an equaly slow new profesion.

Thanks again.

sorry, but the grind is long in the beginning, because of the relatively low amount of damage you do unarmed. If you thought pistols was "long" you might want to try something else...

I also add that this isn't the type of profession that you can "spam your strongest attack" and win. Don't worry so much about how fast you can become a master, as much as what you learn along the way.

best of luck to you

Actually I think it was pretty damn fast Just get a speed sliced VK (1.6 is great) and kill little creatures until you reach Unarmed IV. Once you're there, you'll get Unarmed Spin 1, which you can use to target lairs and kill everything around you. Once you reach Teras Kasi Novice, it's all down hill man, concentrate all your efforts on the Power Techniques tree to get speed, damage and Spin 2. Once you think your speed is high you can get yourself a damage sliced VK for additional hiting power. After that, it's your choice, Balance or Meditative: Balance will give you defenses, Meditative will give you better meditation. I went up Balance first, but seriously, you'll realize the power of meditation once you don't have to visit medics for anything but buffs

Made it to TKM is 4 days and could have taken me less. After TKN, just buy a set of Ubese, buff at Coronet, jump to Dantooine, get in a solo group and kill Jantas for 30k a mission
