Non weapon specific specials in my opinion is not a very good idea.
It eliminates an entire element of strategy when in combat. I often found it very challenging as a TKM rifleman to apply states as a TKM , get a dizzy KD , and then switxh to my rifle as the person was at his weakest. I believe that eliment should apply to all professtion templates. All ranged specials working with all ranged weapons provided you have learned teh skill is just a bad idea. As well as with melee professtions
I have a feeling it will create imbalance and FOTM templates. Pistoleer for what ever reason get an intimidate. I forsee every ranged person having that special. Its one thing to have the skill, but its completly differnt to have it work with every weapon. If a certian professtion was meant to play a role, allowing them to use another professtions specials eliminates that role , and elimiates alot of strategy on when to switch weapons ect.
For example a riflman with carbineer specials. A rifelman was meant to be a damaging dealing professtion , while Carbs is a crowed control prof. If a rifleman can kD targets while doing alot of damage with outhaving to switch weapons that will create alot of imbalance and FOTM templates
If a TKM can have the best defenses in the game and use damaging swordsman specials Albeit with out a sword , that may create even more imbalance.
If I want to to be a TKM , I want to be a TKM. Not a TKM who uses other melee professtion specials. I want to use TKM specials. TKM means alot less if people can just use other professions with it with out switching weapons.
Armor
The problem with us not having armor is that thier are alot of ranged/tkm 's out there. Most of us are accustome dto switching weapons alot in combat. The fact that when we switch to a ranged professtion we will be with out armor is insane. It makes are templates worthless and forces us to either choose one or the other when initiating combat.
It simple isnt fair because a sit sits now and all melee professtion can get the TKM defense while using another weapon and not need armor , while a ranged/tkm cannot.

Yes I am fairly sure
Either way it pretty much elimiates TKM/ranged/possible melee professtions from the game because when you want to switch to your ranged professtion you will have to also equip armor to get defense which I'll assume wont be easy mid combat.

I would be fine with not wearing armor as a tkm as long as I get some robes with mods made just for tkm...kind of like what the jedi get to wear.

You're assuming that Center of Being continues to function as it did, in that it requires a melee weapon. Your assumption is mistaken.

Jedi Robes don't have defensive stats. They have a slight bonus to your force pool, and force regen.

From day 1 Jedi robes were supposed to provide jedi some protection, however, they have beenBROKEN since day 1 and provide NO protections what so ever. This is why most jedi prefer to wear BE clothing instead of the broken jedi robe.

Well to be nitpicky, in the present system you can use intimidate with any weapon equiped, including any ranged weapon
Personaly I like that you can use specials from other ranged or melee professions with any ranged or melee weapon. It helps eliminate that cookie cutter feel to professions that I always hated in other games where you could only be one profession and feels more natural to me that someone who is lets say a master with carbines and pistols might have learnt a few things from doing both that would make him a better pistoleer or carbineer then if he only had only studied the one combat style. Anyway if it's from a profession they have, they can already perform that professions role. All this does is lets them do it with a different weapon.
And there will always be FOTM templates and imbalances, nothing will ever stop those. Best we can hope for is that the imbalances aren't as wide as they are in the present system.
