Thread: Rodian TKAs?
Right now I'm playing as a Rodian Pistoleer/CH. I'm considering dropping Pistoleer for TKA, to increase my PvE ability, but I want to make sure Rodians can do alright as TKAs. Would my relatively low health secondary stats be a problem, or should I do alright? Thanks in advance.

You can do it, but it won't be as easy as a Trandoshan or a Wookie. I'm a Wookie Brawler on Bria and it's 10 times easier than a Zabrak is. I think a Trandoshan is the best Unarmed/TKA char with their bonuses to unarmed and the ability to wear armor. As for a Rodian I've never tried it, but I imagine it wouldn't give you any bonuses worth mentioning.
This is my opinionfrom my experience with unarmed combat
- Trandoshan. Can wear Armor on most the body, Unarmed Bonuses.
- Wookie. Strong, lot's of HAM, wookie roar
- Human. Being average is their strength. Easy to switch armor and stat migrate
- Zabrak. Has good mind regen, def vs. stun, equilibrium, and vitality (temp +50% to HAM)
If you can afford to keep pistoleer I would since it gives you bonuseslike +def vs. stun/knockdown, +dodge, and +melee defense to name a few.
Okay, so let's say I mainly want to do PvE, some grouping but having the ability to solo. Would it be better for me to stick to pistol in this case, or would switching to TKA be alright for me? I don't want to start my character over, since I already got Master CH, so what would you suggest? Staying Pistoleer or going TKA?

Good question.
I'd go with TKA over pistol since you have CH. The bonuses will help you a lot, but not too much.
PvE: Well as a MCH it doesn't really matter, you could be just about anything and do well. You can get by as TKA no problem.
PvP: Pets won't help if you plan on doing 1 on 1. Pistoleer Fanshot and Stopping shot will help you close the gap on players and will compliment TKA KD and dizzy. The pistol bonuses will help against other brawlers too.
My goal is to make money on missions and PvP. After I go up in TKA I'm probably going to drop CH (depending on the patch) and do master pistoleer or maybe smuggler 0-0-4-0. Either way I'd be strong enough to tank a few creatures.
couple clarifications:
'dosh: + to unarmed is huge... clothing/armor options.
wook: /wookieeroar (5 min timer) throws an intimdate cone... intimidate lowers your opponent's dmg. good stats, but not at all worth it. NO armor, VERY limited clothing options. recent talk has circulated concerning the clothing/armor: the words the devs used said that they were 'looking into adding more wookiee wearables'. NO mentionof armor in that statement. it's your gamble.
zab: /vitalize is +50 (not 50%, sorry... now wipe that drool up) to HAM, 1 hr timer. the + to dizzy/stun/etc defense is nice. /equilibrium is great for last-ditch PvP, but you'll make people mad using it (also a 1 hr timer). mind regen is ridiculous (racial min of 700). add in clothing/armor options.
remember a couple oft neglected things...
the strength stat has NO bearing on damage. it is used ONLY to calculate how much health is drained from special attacks. VK's primarily drain the ACTION pool.
your HAM means nothing. armor can effectively double your HAM for dmg. doc's and entertainers can buff your stats WELL beyond any racial bonusses. spices and food can similarly change your stats. and meditate's /powerboost is a self-buff for action and health.
armor is nice, I suppose. it's expensive, and since I've already worn out three sets of boots, it must be soaking up some damage... but I don't wear armor, OR a backpack, because of
CLOTHING. a shirt, jacket, pants, and a bandolier can ALL take BioE tissue mods, which include warcry/intimidate and melee defense/defense to stun. 30k got me a full set which adds +16 melee defense and +67 defense to stun (that's an 8% increase to melee defense... 1% every 2 pts) I also have a LOT of sockets to throw SEA tapes into. sorry, wooks... you can't add more than 1 or two BioE mods, and your choices are severely limited.
you want a rodian? sure, you'll never do more dmg than a 'dosh... but you can wear boots. there's no reason you can't study the mystical arts of unarmed combat with the rest of us.
Some of Jup's information is wrong and misleading. If you maintain pistoleer defense bonuses...they don't stack with tka. Bonuses only work based on what skills you use in the moment; for example, with pistol equipped, you lose tka mods and vice versa.
As for being rodian, you can be a tka. Race really doesn't matter in pvp or pve, what matters is how smart you are with your character (As for pvp, melee vs melee, it's just a matter of who spams kd/dizzy first). You can thank the devs for not really contrasting races, although they say so on paper.
Also the bonuses to the Trans species don't matter too much once you hit master (percentagewise). The big advantage that they have is helping you get to TKA in the first place.
Also remember that Rodians can wear full armor (if you get a nice HAM-sliced composite set), unlike either Trans or Wooks.

Can tell you from experience from the first week of the game...I've fought MANY other Teras Kasi...and race has 0% to do with it. The bonus from Trandoshans is all but negligable the higher you go in TK. The /equilibrium of Zabraks is nice and the human's stats variance is handy for a strong mind, but ultimately...it's the person sitting in the chair with the mouse in their hands that makes the difference.
Every race has it's advantages/disadvantages....but it's your preference that makes the difference. Nothing else. If in your mind, your character is Rodian...than by golly, be one and learn your art and you'll be as effective as anyone else. Period.
Good Journey
