Thread: On kiters:
1. Server lag = "target is out of range". This sucks real bad and needs to be fixed.
2. Melee characters are not allowed to attack while moving, whereas ranged characters are. This is unbalanced.
It is on getting these two issues fixed that we, as a community, need to focus our attention.
Our profession is a powerfull one, and with the exception of these two instances, we are very well off. Asking for more benefits now (i.e. a skill that allows us to close distance with ranged combatants at no cost to us) will only lead to nerfs later on. That is one thing that none of us want.
I have a better solution to the kiting issue. First off, the more expierenced and PvP oriented members of the community should spend some time writing guides on combat tactics and strategies. These would benefit all melee players, and alleviate some of the frustration caused by not having any idea what to do when faced with a kiter. Second, we need to spend some time and energy getting the two aforementioned issues fixed. This is all I need to see happen to be be content with this fantastic profession.
I agree TKA is a solid and fun profession - possibly the best balanced combat class in the game, however, point #2 there about not being able to attack while moving is incorrect: Melee do attack while moving, and it has been that way since Beta. A lot of people have said Melee can't attack while moving, but problem #2 is really problem #1 - out of range.
To test this, click on the Combat channel tab in your chat window and attack something while running around. Normal and special attacks will all work as you expect, unless you're out of range. Those times when it looks like you're not attacking will match to 'Out of range' messages in the Combat channel.
So you've just cut your list of gripes in half.
Since I only have one issue to contend with now, half of the battle is won, and i am that much more pleased with the profession.
Thanks.
No worries. Though I'm surprised you haven't figured this out by now. I regularly run with mobs while attacking and being attacked. Though I haven't pvped, I imagine it's the same there.
