Guys,
This is partially on-topic and partially off-topic, so sorry if it's a mispost (I don't think so, though).
I'm new and now at 2000 in brawler (on my way to TKA, I hope). Instead of grinding critters, I've been grinding Rebel quest missions. Since the patch (yesterday?) instead of taking out wookie brawler camps and gambling dens, I've been going up against civiliam imperial gaurds (or something like that) and they are A LOT tougher. First off, they are social, secondly three of them can almost kill me unbuffed (and I have to use a lot of stimpack-Bs). Has anyone else grinded this way? It's slower, but I'm getting faction points too (lots of 'em now). And what about money? I can't afford buffs/brandy for missions simply because the pay is about 800 a shot. Any suggestions?

--BW

P.S. I found I do better without armour at all, because I regen faster. I do use a VK though (with a speed of 2.2)

I know a few who (prior to this year) "ground" the way to Novice Teräs Käsi through factional missions. It wasn't as quick/easy as the typical creature killing route, but they had a lot more fun doing it that way. Unfortunately I really don't know what to tell you about the "apparent" increase in toughness. Anyone else starting a new character that can give a comparison?

No longer holding out hope, SWG will never be the game we fought so hard for, that we believed so much in. Farewell friends.

It HAS to be the weapons they are equipped with now...I keep hearing IMP NPCs are doing more damage, I think all they changed was upgrading the weapons.

But, the rebel NPCs are still wusses...wish they put up a better fight

I can still do it ok. But once every six missions or so I end up getting diseased by the NPC Sergeant, and that sucks, because I have to get it healed. I wanted to see if it would wear off, but after half an hour I had too many wounds and it was still attacking me.

Before I never ran into the Imp NPCs at all. Just wookies and gamblers. These guys are new to my experience. But fun, because now I'm getting about 300% more faction points than I did before. Of course my Imp faction points are going through the floor...

P.S. As a starting character, who can really afford to buff up before grinding?

P.P.S. I have a VK with a speed of 2.2 (which is much faster than me without a VK). However the damage isn't nearly as good as me empty handed. If we are speaking of DPS, is it more effective to use them (as I have)?

not really , i was level my CH skill again last night and useing novice rifleman instead of tkm , the imperial medic and low level imps npc went down very fast indeed , but that could of being the fact i had a t21 and a pet tanking , but i did gind alot of tkm this way it is good xp the higher you get up but alot slower then the quitter way , but fair do's as you not buffed good luck , the unbuffed way is alot of fun and hard as well compaired to buffed im never buffed on test and it is fun a risk involved instead of buffed armoured

The way factional mission usually work is Wookiee Brawler camps until you sign up with a faction, then the opposite faction on missions after that. And yes, the Imperial NPC's have been beefed up. My buddy spotted a 220k HAM regular everyday stormtrooper the other day. And I've been one shot incapped by a bunch of others.

I'm a big fan of getting through whatever grind you are working on (and there are plenty of them) by getting multiple benefits from your efforts, whether that be faction points, money, loots, or badges. I did all of TK doing the two Reb POI dungeons on Talus over and over again. By the time I reached TKM, I was also an Imp Major with an ATST. It took longer, probably, but I got multiple benefits for it.

For the Brawler tree, I have to cop to the fact that I AFK combat macro'd it (sling your arrows here if you like). Your skills are pretty weak that early on and I just couldn't do it in live action killing of a seemingly endless sea of nunas and the like. I commend you for your efforts and for trying to take on missions like that so early on.

As to the money, I found that to be the toughest part about starting and the economy wasn't as bloated then (2nd month) as it is now (although we only started with 250 creds then). I don't think there is a way to get decent cash with introductory combat skills, at least I didn't find any. I made my first million credits selling resources. When you first start, anybody can place a harvester and sell the results on the bazaar for at least 2 for 1. 29 skill points in pretty easy to obtain Artisan boxes is a good temporary investment and allow you to look for resources with the same abilities as anybody else. That income stream can supplement your combat monetary needs until you are strong enough to take higher paying missions.

good way to make money early on is by selling your themepark loot rewards. I did Jabba's with brawler 3000 and marksman 0040.
