i currently have my VKs set to F1 and my knockdown set to F3 and whenever i want to use a special move i just unequip my VKs for a sec. It drastically reduces the HAM cost and as soon as the special move effect starts i re-equip the VKs. This works wonders for me (i can take out a red con and finish the battle at full HAM) and until some fixes are made i really suggest this tactic to my fellow TKs. Some might think this an exploit or not the original intention of the devs or whatever but i justify it by thinking about all the parts of the body that we hit with. we don't always hit with our right hands, we could easily knockdown someone with a kick or some other equivalent so unequiping the VKs is just a way to work out the technicalities of this in game mechanics. Anyways, i hope this helps everyone until the nerf bat turns off "beat up melee" mode.
