Whenever I attempt it now it says "You cannot channel your energies any further". Sheesh.

Maybe you should wait until your powerboost has ended first eh?

Hehe no, it says that the first time, and every time I attempt to use it. My stats are completely unaffected. Thanks for the advice though, it would not be below me to make a noob mistake like that .

Get someone to deathblow you and it should work fine once you clone. A server crash caused the same problem for me and a deathblow cleared it up.
