I'm not sure how many of you know, but we Dancers have just been given a very cool new dance named Bunduki. Since you guys should be the right people to ask, I thought I'd pop in here with my question.
It would be nice to know some background so we can do justice to this new style we're going to be training in - any monk insight?

What I posted in that thread, for any who are curious
Theres a huge thing about TKA being Jedi Assassins who killed the jedi, are are resitant to the force, blah, blah, blah.
Total crock.
As far as licensed EU material goes.
Back in the day, Millenia before the Clone Wars, there was a great war involving The Jedi. One as big as the Clone Wars, if not bigger.
The final battlefield of this war was in the Pacanth Reach, more specifically, the planet Palawa.
The Jedi knew that Palawa would be destroyed in this final battle to destroy their enemy, but they deemed it a neccesary loss. The Palawans did no think as much, as their once beautifal planet was now all but destroyed. The majority (all?) of the survivors migrated to Bunduki. Several Palawans decided the Jedi where too powerful. No one entity should have that much power. Over several Generations, Teras Kasi was created and formed. This was done not as a means to kill The Jedi, but as a means to fight, period, against any foe that threatens one's wellbeing, including The Jedi.
And so, Teras Kasi exists up to the point of the Clone Wars as a well known of, though not well known, fighting style. In terms of rarity, I'd personally relate it to Krav Maga, or Systema, in modern day. Not everyone has heard of it, but its not an ancient secret. In fact, right before the clone wars, there was a tournament on Bunduki that seemed to focus around Teras Kasi.
The issue of mysticism in Teras kasi is also prevalent. SWG is an EU source, so we can say there has to be SOME ammount of mysticism in the Art. However, we see that not all Teras Kasi artists are one with the beliefs that go with it, many of it's practitioners use it merely as a fighting style. Some of its noted users were Phow Ji, who was a bit of a sociopath, winner of the Palawa Band Tournament on Bunduki, a mercenary, and more or less a guy looking for reasons to kill people with his Bare hands. Zan and Zu Pike, mercenaries known to work for the highest bidder, also practiced Teras Kasi. As did the Jedi Joclad Danvi.
Many people try to play Teras Kasi off as monks. Crock. Phow Ji, to the public eye, was the Teras Kasi posterboy. He fought and killed seperatists in the Clone Wars, he was a winner of the Palawa Band Tournament on Bunduki, and even beat a Jedi in that tournament. Granted, the Jedi was also unarmed, and was not using The Force at all. This fighter, who I also beleive was a member of the elite Followers of Palawa, did not believe in The Force at all. He thought The Jedi to be good swordsmen, who use a few parlor tricks to maintain Social Elitism. Phow Ji, was never recorded in the EU to ever wear any sort of Robe/skirt/anything of the like. He was usually in a pair of well fitting pants/shorts he could move in.
Zan and Zu Pike, were Teras Kasi Experts. It is not known how much they lived it as a life, but tehy were also mercenaries, so, draw your own conclusions. They were the son of Dux Pike, who was killed by Phow Ji in the Palawa Band Tournament, unintentionally. In the EU they were listed as wearing wellfitting Tunics and pants as they fought several StormTroopers. No Robes, No Monkisms.
So, as far as the Mysticism of Teras Kasi, to each his own. You surely have some who use the mysticism of Teras Kasi to their full advantage, these people likely see Teras Kasi as more than a fighting style, but a way of life. Others simply use Teras Kasi to beat the crap out of others. To my knowledge Aikido is similar. Those that practice it on the highest level truely believe that if they ever get into an actual fight, they have already failed miserably.
So, to recap.

Figured it deserved its own thread, as many are interested in that sorta thing, and its a debate that comes up semi-often.
