Hi All,

first off, i wanted to say to everyone that i love being a TKA. I started off as a commando wannabie from day one (day two really) and was one of the first master commandos in the gorath galaxy. after realizing how boring commando became (ie send pet in, flame single 2, watch m0b die), it became so boring, i decided i that i needed a switch. i went cold turkey and dropped all of my commando skills and tried TK. after making it to noivce, i have come to the realization that TK is so awesome and has made this game fun again. other than the sheer challange of fighting unarmed, i love the depth and history (some fan tales that add to the story, but stories none the less) of TK. i feel that in the absence ofjedi, beingTK has the most depth and appeal.i am enjoying it so much thati am trying to get a TKA and melee school going so we can have competitions and stuff (cheap advertising). so i just wanted to share this with other TKA's out there.

second, i wanted to ask the forums advice on skill points. now that i am a master TKA anda weaponsmith in waiting (holocron driven), i only have so many skill points to spend on other profs. my goal is to find other profs that can enhance my defense mods in TKA and to enjoy both PvE and PvP. i have narrowed it down to either rifleman or fencer.

I would prefer fencer since its in the spirit of TKA and the defense mods are awesome, but my concern is that I would be an uber tank in PVE but less effective in PvP. So my question is, have you guys had much success in PvP and raids as a pure melee class?

If not, the defense mods in rifleman are nice but not as good as fencer. also with rifleman and the defense mods, i can be effective in PvE and PvP and be more balanced. however, i wouldnt be that uber tank that ive always wanted to be.

what do you think?

I have been master marksman, master pistoleer, and now Teras Kasi master. I think that Teras Kasi masters are great PvPers but the roles are more situational than pistol users. BY this i mean you have to figt on your terms.

If you wanna go on raids stay covert, group with overts and strike when the situation favors you. Surprise people or get inside where they cannot kite you and you'll be fine.

I think you should do what you've always wanted to do, ie. uber tank! You obvioulsy like PvPing, whereas I don't. So go for the rifleman one... I am working on doctor alongside my TK for the sheer fact that I would be uber buffing myself once I hit master. That in itself, makes me an uber tank! hehe

Also, on the subject of TKA only guild. I am also on Gorath and I was thinking once I hit master TK I myself would start my own guild of Tk only (maybe melee only) dojo. And stage tournaments and have other events and such things. Training for melee noobs from melee vets and other such things, I would be interested to get together in game and discuss getting this going... However, I am very happy in the guild I am currently in, as I think many other people would be... Maybe we should make it a non guild type of thing and have sopme other way of distinguishing members... Not quite sure how though...

Master brawler will really increase your tanking abilities.

magicbum, what's your ingame name? ill send u a tell when i log on.

since i like the PA i'm in and would like to have a martial arts association accross faction and PA's, i was thinking that we can still form a melee school and distinguish ourselves on our character bio's. we would need a name for the school and the assocation of various schools.

second, thanks for the advice. i liked the master brawler idea since warcry 1 & 2 stack. my biggest complaint is that warcry doesnt prevent the millions of ppl doing ranged attacks on you in a raid. that's why i chose either fencer or rifleman with their ranged defense mods. otherwise, i would love to do master brawler.

Seraph'd my in game name is Monsoon, I'm Wookiee. I was thinking about maybe special clothes for the association or something, but then that proves problems for me and other wookiees as we have a massive disadvantage for clothes but I'm sure there will be some way in which we can distinguish between members and non-members.

I know I really like the PA I'm in right now, so I think it would take a lot of thinking about if I was to leave it. This is why I think it's important that we don't make this a requirement for members. If we do make this, there are things we need to take into account. Things like developing a hierarchy such as having an all leading grandmaster, who is determined via a massive tournament between members, initiation into the group could be some kind of test, maybe taking on a lair of some kind solo, depending on the persons skill level just to verify that they have a basic knowledge of how to fight and stay alive on their own maybe... I know it's kids stuff but you'll be surprised how many people rely on pets and others while doing missions, and as far as I can see, incompetent fighters are of no use to us as a group...

I have been thinking about this for a while as you may have already guessed but if you have any info, then either post here, or send me an in game email or /tell if I'm online.

Seraph'd I been thinking about this a bit more, and to be honest you can go to town with this idea if you really want to, it all depends on how seriously you play. Here are a few ideas, and from these, you can probably guess that I'm quite serious about it...

First of all, this gives a good opportunity for a small level of roleplay if you want to then thats fine, if not, then you still get around it. We could make it a bit like th jedi class where the TKM takes on a TKN as a pupil, and teaches them the ways of the Teras Kasi and the best ways to use it in different situations based on their different experiences. Thus creating the master sensei/student relationship forming. This doesn't mean always being together because some people would not take to that idea, but the sensei would be someone the novice could turn to for advice and help anytime. This would cater for all melee professions as well

We could make it so you have to be at least TKN level to enter and a TKM would have to "take you on" as a pupil and only that way you could be entered into the dojo. Restricting masters to one pupil only. Thus keeping the numbers down and ensuring it is only serious players who intend on playing these rules out properly.

Creating our own code or decree that must be followed at all times could be an option also, something along the lines of, if any member is seen by other members fighting amongst themselves or using any means of combat other than that in which they are registered into the group with. These resulting in heavy punishment or being kicked from the group with a first time: warning, second time: see ya kind of attitude... maybe...

Anyway, these are some of the ideas I have come up with so far, if these kind of things are nothing like what you had in mind then let me know and I'll take my head out the clouds and let me know what you had in mind instead.

hey monsoon...i thought u were a rifleman. if my memory serves me correctly, i thought we went with lleshap to dathormir and you were using your t-21?

anyway, i like your ideas and this is going to require some thought. i want to set up a martial arts school which would include all melee combtants across PA's.i dont plan on leaving my PA since im a leader there. sothe martial arts order would be more of an informal group.i need to think of a way to distinguish ourselves, ieclothing for humanoids and clothing for wookies (robes come to mind but we'll see).the group would allow us to focus more on the order of TKA but also include fencers, swordsman, etc. so cross training is encouraged.

the first order of business is to create one or several grandmasters (1 for each meleee prof) of the school. this can be determined by having a tournament very similar to mortal kombat or the like.

second, this order would be faction aligned mostly with the hopes of finding an opposing TKA order. that way we can have an all melee war on one of the battlefields similar to something like braveheart the movie .

finally, the idea of the martial arts order is to start up some RPing. i was thinking that this order was formed in response to the extinction of the Jedi as their roles of the keeper of the peace. this story could work and could add the depth of the profession. but before i establish anything, i need to do some SW research first.

this is a good roughdraft and post any ideas here. ill compile everything and we'll go from there. laters.

first of all, I think you dropped the wrong proffession.

What made it boring was CH, not commando.

I started my char as a swordman. But back then the kiting was so bad I dropped it just 1 box short of master. So I picked up CH and squad leader... later dropped squad leader 2 boxes from master (in disgust of the class being so porked) and kept CH, which i was about to master.

Picked up commando.. and, as you said, it was boring as heck to have the 2 GSP's (i was just 2 empathy boxes from master) tank and me flame away.

Then I tried playing without the pets. BAM! commando became very challenging and fun.

So i dropped CH and started to go up towards rifleman and some smuggling skills to complement my commando...

then the 2.5x melee modifier hit. stopped the rifleman, kept smuggler.. just hit master tka yesterday.

Im having loads of fun lobbing explosions at range and slapping things silly at close range. In groups im the insurance policy.. i can tank and hold aggro or peel aggro (KD with both pistol and melee), i can handle the massive aggro (warcry and flame cone, then /taunt everything around me and punch what life is left from the burn dot) and save the group, or I can just stand back and protect the medic.

When i compare it to my CH days... theres no comparison. the peekachu class is what made the whole thing boring.

I think that what you are experiencing now, as CH/TKA is the fact that you are doing SOME fighting, albeit a very safe one since you have your pets to take most of the hits. You just traded the flamer for tka punching damage. But the risk is still rather small, your utility limited.

my .2 cents.

'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'

A TKM can be absolutely devastating in PVP. But you have to always be mindfull of what you can and can't do.

The fact is we can pummel any given players into the ground and db them in 5 seconds or under. mostly.

We can't charge into a BH at 50m hoping to live to see his face. Nor can we win in most kiting situations.

I find myself often sitting in the rear of a battle hiding behind pets. When the battle gets going, I"ll choose and pick targets of opportunity. Look for people to concerned with killing they're targets or commanding theyr'e pets. Then just run in and swat them down. It is my style to duck in and out of the enemies line. Duck in to take down a target then run like hell to the rear to pick my next target. I never bother to chase kiters, it's pointless, instead I head toward the rears let my ranged comrades attack the kiter instead, then perhaps once he's busy doing ranged battle quickly move in for melee attacks.

Aside from taking down other players, pet killing is my other primary role. I always keep an eye out for fellow members in my group getting chased down by gsp's, graul maulers, or whatever. Then I quickly move in to deal with the pet.

Another favored role of mine is acting as bodyguard for either the group leader, or the doctors/cm's/medics. Often medics find themselvesblindly running into bad situations to restorefallen comrades. It's a big boost to they're job to have a heavy duty tkm standing between them and the enemy.

With regards to CH.... definatley that would make it boring. If you want excitement be your own pet tank.

Become a TKA/Commando

Do not underestimate the power of Knockdown2+dizzy+flamesingle2 = dead everytime

This is the combo that makes me just laugh uncontrollably at every pet in the game.

oh dear seraph'd, its been a long time since we went hunting then... hehe, after rifleman, i went back to my original choice of 2 handed swordsman, then was gonna be commando so started learning marksman and decided to take the unarmed section first coz i though it would be the worst! how wrong could i be... thought hmm, its actually kinda cool... so got to novice carbineer and thought why not?! so i went for TKA, now im 2 1 3 2 and cant wait to get this thing off the ground, some of your ideas are really good. i like em, and together i think we could make this a successful thing in the game!

Ive got you on my friend list, so next time im on ill /tell you and see how youre getting on. obviously theres a lot of work to do to set it up as its gotta have a background and a decree to follow and a building to serve as the dojo and all kinds of stuff... so itll be fun though once we get it up and running though. let me know how youre getting on with an in-game email or something.
