Ok I wanna go with the template TKM/MHS . Say I am fighting no armor with teras kasi, If I switch to a power hammer, Will I begin to take more damage if I do not putbattle armor on, or is the armor inherent no matter what? and if the armor is inherent, would it also be true for ranged weapons?

I have tested it with power hammer and innate still works. I have not tested it with a ranged weapon. The amount of damage taken might be slightly different when you have a weapon but that is due to your melee/ranged defense changing with a weapon and not related to innate armor. You can enable verbose combat to confirm how much innate armor is protecting you.

Innate Armor will work no matter what weapon you use, melee or ranged. The only thing that "turns off" innate armor is putting on some other armor. The amount of damage you take would change due to differences in defense stats if you switch to a power hammer or to a ranged weapon, but innate armor would still be active.
