All of the responses form the Devs about Melee VSRanged combantants and there place in StarWars Universe, got me thinking.. I saw it posted once that the server and client side have different ideas as to objects physical location with a difference of about 15m.

That being said, wouldn't be extremely difficult to make a /stick command. Or make /follow work while in combat. Or having buggy "attacker not in range" error messages. Being able to attack unarmed while moving....

Then if you look at unarmed lunge range with vk's unequipped. 15m....

Coincidence?

I dont think so.

Look at the ranges for ranged weapons.. all at 64m. yet pistol seems to have no penalties regarding range distance.

Look at commando's weapons have set ranges that are crap ( like 0 range for a rocket launcher)

All the devs have said issued comments that tend to dissuade people from playing melee classes.

And skirting issues about attacking while moving, why melee should lose to ranged person etc.

That " Blasters are the primary weapon in the SW universe. " thinking says alot about the game engine and technical limits. The repeatedly tell us that running around with a ranged weapon and shooting things is better than melee.

THATS BECAUSE THE GAME ENGINE HAS PROBLEMS WITH OBJECT LOCATION WITHIN 15M OR SO.

Ever wondered why the commando class has a rocket launcher with 0 range? Becuase implementation problems with object locations for a rocket launcher.

Dont believe me?

Look at Mob Aggro.

a ranged weapon user can hit a mob for a ton of damage. Sure it goes after the ranged guy... but, what happens if ANYTHING attacks it in melee? Yep, it turns to attack the melee person. Why ? when the ranged guy is doing 900 damage every 2 secs, and melee guy hit it for 150 dam, does it go after the melee. Cause its programmed that way.. Because the melee is within 15m distance. Ala more accuracy in object location in combat. Limit of game engine mechanics. Wonder why CH's are encouraged to have pets tank for them and why it is successful (Pets dont have range issues, unliek PC's which have tobe monitered for balance )

Same thing with big mobs. No problem hitting them with blaster, but try to meleethem and the object location limits/bugs become much clearer. you haveto be right on the mob to attack it if it at all.

That being said, I believe the core game engine has problems with melee combat. And rather than tell this to people, and lose out on a few bucks from the people who want to play a melee class or have a review of the game saying no melee classes are available, thus missing a buck there also, they he and haw about " dont bring a knife to a gunfight" type comments..

"Well, what about JEDI?!" you say.

Well there are no JEDI PCS yet (thousands of pissed fanboi's who cant kill any body with their lightsabers, Out of range problems anyone...).

NPC JEDI's cant complain about the crappy 15M Delta of error and probably dont have a range modifier per say. Isn't it true that most Dark JEdi NPCS wield lightsabers ( for flavor) and no ranged forceattacks and get kited to be killed?

they nerf TKA KNcokdown the worst... why?

to prevent you from soloing Dark JEdi's and other hard mobs without using the game engine design of no melee combat. If you keep killing Red cons in melee, ineveitably the 15m problems with combat in this engine will become glaringly apparent. and SOE will have to admit that there engine can do it right or teh code is fubared and still int eh Development stage. And if it was ranged kiting only no one notices the melee problems. They can always beef up the mob with more ham and resistances to combat nerf-calls on people kiting uber mobs. Cant fix melee cause it doesnt exist.

Sorry, for the scatter brained post. But after everything that has developed and my own in game experiences thus theory came in to mind. What do you think ? I think either,

A) teh engine has limitation problesm with range of object location.

B) the Current Code is bugged and in the Development stage still and rather than than admit that. they will spin it off to "well, dont bring a knife to a gunfight" type comments... Cause they are not sureWHEN or IF the melee bugs/problems with object locaton will be fixed.

And i bet we wont see any jedi novices till after said bug is fixed or coded different. Can you imagine the outcrys of people who played enough to get a Force Sensitive slot and then make JEDI and unable to be effective!!, omg one of the biggest selling points of the game! Useless!!?? heh bet you would see alotof /cancel subscription.

ya you do the math.
