xp is basically determined by how much dmage you do and how long you fight.
i got 3.9k with my fencer as i got closer to master. i was getting 3.9k with the tk when i was three boxes into power.
commandos just suck

while I was commando. YOu capped out at 3100 ~ 3300 exp per kill..
I'm doing Savage Quakers at the max 3600 ~ 3800exp.. I killed one Terrible quaker at 4435...
I have mixed views on this...
but I like it either way..

I've noticed that they suck 
it's very sad I dont want to have to jump ship but if the "combat balance" is just a big word for "THE BIG NERF" then it looks like I'll have too.
