sorry about the noobishness of this post, still a lot of things i don't know about.
So from what i gather, you can put power-ups on VK, here is some info i need:
what kind of power-up do i use with vk- i really dont know anything about power-ups, so i tend to shy away from them, like when the weaponsmith makes it, is it made for a specific type of power-up, or do all power-upswork in them?
do power-up vk's tend to be popular enough to be stocked on most weapon vendors, or will i need to get it special made? are they uber-expensive?
I dont know jack obviously, so any info is helpfull

you are looking for melee powerups... i find a good one to use is the damage one, tk 0040 will cap for speed with any knuckle.

Personally I would go for a Speed sliced set of VK's and then work your way up to 0040. Once there I would get some Damaged sliced ones.

Don't look for a weaponsmith to make them. For what ever screwed up reason, master artisans can make better ones. Same with daggers, cdefs, and weapon repair kits.

... and I don't know that you can even use powerup on a VK. I'll make a meleeweapon powerup and try tonight. That could be useful. Less HAM cost, more damage, or whatever it generates. Seems pretty random.

Yes, melee powerups work on VK. Even with only 6 points of experimentation (grr) I still managed to get 0.3 seconds off my VK. A Master Artisan will get 10 points, so get them from them, not a Master Weaponsmith. They are generated randomly, so make sure he knows what you want modified before he makes a crate of them. He may have to try a few times to get the right stat modifier.
