Well, for a loot macro I use

name the macro "loot"

then do

/loot

/macro loot

Works like a charm. If you in a group though it might make people a bit mad.

I use this same type of macro (same steps at least), but I usually don't use it unless really necessary because otherwise i get a bunch of messages like "you cannot loot (insert name) at this time" that all flash accross my screen and dont stop untill i kill the macro. Any ideas on how to make this stop?

Ninja looting i used to just have a /loot button assigned on my toolbar but when i went hunting with a friend who had a better connection than i the full macro had to be activated. If hunting in a group try avoiding macroing it though its annoying and i have kicked ninja looters who dont stop after being warned from the group hunt before. They were still welcome to come with us just they got no further loot.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is "ninja looting"?

Hmm, I've wondered that, does it mean a person who is only in a group to loot, implying ninja as in stealthy, like a stealthy undercover sneaker looter type person ?

Typically it was someone who would loot the corpse before anyone else could, which was unknown for sometime because you used to not receive the system messages about who looted what. Now it is just the person who loots before anyone gets a chance to.

But doesn't any loot get divided automatically among the group members? Or is that only credits? I guess I've never looted anything other than credits (except for a crappy robe and a carpet attachment).

Only credits (though at one time there was an option to make items automatically split as well, but I could not tell you if that option still works).

there is a way to become a ninja looter:

to become one, you have to figure out the way to do it yourself, and know when to use your powers
