Thread: PvP vs. PvE thought
**DISCLAIMER**
These are my own opinions, and I don't really care if you agree or not, this is merely my observation:
******
I'm reading a lot of, "I don't care about PvP, I'm playing for PvE"....or vice versa...
Now, I don't do much PvP either, but I'm just wondering how much PvE you can really do? Anyone playing today, is most likely gonna be able to Master any profession within a month or two (I'm not a power gamer, and I've mastered Scout, Marksman, and I'm 4 boxes from TKM in 40 days)
After you "Master" your character, and reach all of your xp caps, how much PvE are you going to continue doing? I think*MOST* people will turn to faction hunting, trying to build their character up on one side of the GCW or the other....and as a result of that, engage in PvP combat.
Yes, PvE is imporant, but it's very miniscule if you look at it in the big picture. There's no more "xp'ing" after you take a month or two to get your character where you want him/her.
This isn't EQ, where you'll spend years leveling, only to have them keep adding more levels....once you're there (and it's not *THAT* hard), you're there. There's little to no, "loot" so that's not a reason to PvE either. What's left for PvE once there are no more levels? Exploration? Seeing the worlds? That's about the only thing I can think of.
I think that you're thinking like an achiever. So let me speak like a socializer explorer. I don't hunt mobs because I need xp. I fight mobs becaues *I can*, because PvE is fun, or I want to test myself against a new kind opponent, or I want a certain item, or an looking for a certain kind of resource, or I must casually exploring for fun. The only thing I need to really keep PvE fun is new kinds of mobs or areas to explore. And I prefer PvE to PvP at every level of play, even after reaching a "master" status. In DAoC after I reached level 50, twice, I realized that if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't have bought a game that placed nearly 90% emphasis on PvP -- I probably would have tried EverQuest instead. That's just me.
I mean no disrespect. I understand that different people play for different reasons. But it seems like you're thinking of things from the perspective of "well, I made master - I've "beat" the game." I don't see it that way at all. In fact, the only reason I'm looking forward to master is so that I can feel like I can actually start enjoying the game - exploring where I want to explore not having to worry about where the best experiences is, working on other skills, etc.
I think you'll have to acknoweldge that there are people out there who never touch PvP. And even after they reach a combat mastery, they don't consider the game over, because they just have different goals than other people.
"Yes, PvE is imporant, but it's very miniscule if you look at it in the big picture. There's no more "xp'ing" after you take a month or two to get your character where you want him/her."
Again, I say this with respect, but I strongly disagree with this claim. PvE is a miniscule part of the picture to you -- a killer/acheiver type. But you have to accept the fact that PvE is a very important part of the big picture of others. I will definately be engaging in PvE for a long time - its not something I do just to "level."
Now that said, the point I tried to make days ago which was totally misconstrued (partly by my own bad wording and tone) was that I am suspicious that if we were to poll people in THIS PROFESSION, 90% of respondants would agree with your claim that PvE is a miniscule part of the big picture. But across the entire spectrum of the game, I'm skeptical that those percentage numbers would remain the same.
PS -- if I seem nicer and less abrasive today, its because I am 2 hours from a two week vacation, my first in 2.5 Y E A R S of working full time.
Stop saying "DING!" so much, I'm getting all excited =P
Sorry, I like xp and levels (beit character levels or skill levels).
Those are all good points that you posted, but I agree with Elanae. Call me shallow (or I believe the term was, "very short sighted".../shrug) but I don't see the point in spending time fighting a "durni" as opposed to a "crazed durni". You kill one bunny, you've killed em all.
I alreadymentioned Exploration, and I understand it will prolly take a few months sosee anddo it all.
Although on that note, I took and entire weekend exploring this game, went to Dathomir, Endor, Lok, and all the other "uber" planets....spent many hours running around and killing things (pre KD nerf) and I have to say, it's just more of the same. Good xp sure, but I wouldn't go kill Rancors or Nightsisters for hours if I wasn't gaining any xp...sorry. MHO..
Yeah, maybe you folks that avoid PvP (and even ignore it's existance in this game) will master your character, and then create a new one on a seperate account, or surrender some of your hard earned skills, and start a new profession. But for me, I guess I'll have long since retired my PvE trophies and moved onto a high ranking Rebel position, with an army of faction troops, fighting for the good guys.
To each their own. If they give me another 250 skill points, I guess I'll master those too, but without xp, fighting mobs just doesn't seem rewarding.
Oh and as for I'm the type of person that says, "Yay, I got master, I beat SWG!", no I'm sorry that's not the case. But when I'm Master of all my professions, Major General in Rebel Alliance, and have my share of badges, medals, and stories to tell, yes, the game has been beaten. Hopefully there will be more content by then.
This isn't a Knockdown nerf dicussion.
Hijack overruled ![]()
Eh I wasn't trying to start a knockdown nerf discussion. There are more than enough of those already. ![]()
I was trying to make the point that maybe the Devs try to balance the game for both PvE and PvP.A lot of people are saying thatPvP causes PvEto be nerfed and that the Devs should not basebalance on PvP. I was trying to make the point that maybe they feelthe current "nerf of the week"is overpoweredin both so they nerf in both.
I don't see why people think you have to either PvP or PvE, I do both, I enjoy both, I wouldn't play the game if either was taken out.
Not all people who enjoy PvP are l33t d00ds.
I also think that the amount of people that do casual PvP is underestimated by some people.
Now, I don't do much PvP either, but I'm just wondering how much PvE you can really do?
DING DING DING! Someone finally said it. After you get Master there is NOTHING to do because we all know there is no loot, no real dungeons, etc so you have to PvP. After I hit Master I got bored and fixed up a house, helped guildies etc but now I am doing PvP.
Unless they add content there will be no reason to PvE. The only thing you get out of PvE is money (you won't need the XP anymore) and money will be pointless by then because you won't be going through armor or weapons and will have bought everything else you wanted.
