Thread: Melee VS Ranged Is Something TKA Shouldn't Worry About.
OK, to set the record straight about "battle confusion". This worked before the 75% PvP reduction when you could get a 1 hit kill on an occupied marksman. Now, he'll just turn around and pistol whip you, or something else.
About TKA being the best melee class because of knockdown........I'm not sure I should even respond to this, butit seems you aren'ta TKA, or don't have knockdown. But, knockdown costs an extreme ammount of HAM, AND they get right back up, so it's only truly effective if you spam it to keep your enemy on the ground. In other words, kd hurts more than helps with or without vks. Also, Pikemen have knockdown too.
Actually KD is all we have. I PvP alot and I am one of the few TKA left out there still fighting the war. In maybe the last 50 battles I have been in, I have seen maybe 5 other TKAs. I hear of guys using work arounds for kd but its still our best tactic. Its very very hard to kill people given that other people are shooting at you and your being bled, poisoned, ect; you cant afford to get kited you have to KD.KD is the only thing that will kill your target if you manage to live for more than 30 seconds. As far as PvE I have seen a sharp drop in our numbers there as well almost all groups out hunting the big stuff depend on pets and melee players tend to be more of a burden than an asset since they bog the party down by getting constantly killed and incapped.
I have never understood why TKA got targeted in such a harsh matter. We where never an uber class and there where never powergamers flocking to our ranks. In PvP battles about 40% of the people are Pistoleers either with the bounty hunter pistol tree, smuggler tree, or doctor. Carbine users make up about 30% and the lastly riflemen are maybe 15%. That last 5% includes commando and the melee classes. What is Sony's logic here? nerf that 5% in melee and then lets move on and nerf that 15% in rifles.
Ok, I don't even care about being able to kill ranged players, I understand that a guy with a gun will always kill a guy with brass knuckles, swords, or a stick,...but I don't care. I just want TKA to be able to compete with other melee classes in PvP and PvE.
As of now, TKA is by far the worst melee class in the game. We aren't the fastest, Fencers are just as fast if not faster. We aren't the strongest, Swordsmen, Pikemen, AND Fencers do alot more damage than we do. We don't have the highest defense, they are all about the same, except Swordsmen and Pikemen have armor ratings of about medium with their weapons. We have no definitive feature or strongpoint.
You're right on one point, but wrong on another... out of all of the brawler classes I'm pretty sure that TKA is the best one of them all.. I'm not completey sure of this, but isn't TKA the only of the brawler classes with a distinctive knockdown?
There's something I like to call "Battle Confusion" this might not catch on but who cares.. anyway.. It's something that I like to take advantage of in pvp, what it is is.. when there's 5 v 5, 6 v 6 or lets face it.. 4 imps vs 12 rebels (on my server lol) each person is worrying about the lasers being shot at them, and their direction, the fact that they have to watch their teamates, and the enemy at the same time.. and the health bar of their enemy, the hotkey menu so they know what ranged knockdown to use next... that's battle confusion and you know the tka motto "if we catch you.. you're ass is dead" They are too busy worrying about all of this stuff and you can normaly take them out quick... and the best part is.. their buddies never help them out because they figure.. i have this guy i have to shoot and it looks pretty enevitable that my buddy is going to die wether i help him or not.. so.. there you have it.. of course it doesn't work in pvp... but if you're smart about it and you keep your cool in combat you can do pretty well by taking advantage of BATTLE CONFUSION.
=)
LIES!! ALL LIES!!!!!!!!!! Either that or you stink in combat.
I RP a zabrak tka currently at 3/4/4/3. So very close, I can taste it.
I dont have any of these problems. I duel a pikeman, fencer, swordsman, polearm specialist, whatever, I smoke them all. TKA is by far the strongest of all the melee professions if you know what you are doing, especially in PVP.
It doesnt matter if hes a ranged guy or a melee guy, once you reach master balance conditioning and master power techniques none of them live very long. Once I get within range, its over if I have atleast 1/4 of my health left, knockdown2 with its dizzy effect ensures my victory. I drop a few unarmed hit2's on themwhile they are down and scrambling for that /stand hotkey and its lights out. And thats without vk's. I dont even use em in pvp. Vk's are only good for pve. Once i get to master and get unarmed hit3 it will only get easier.
ON top of that you have a plethora of other moves with different effects at your disposal. Learn the nuances that surround them and use them to your advantage.
hmmmm...
I'm not going to speak for you but in raids I get the most kills and die the least being a TKA Master...
play smart, it will take you far ![]()
I use the same technique as somebody else mentioned in this thread for pvp:
- Never use VK's in PVP
- Throw one Unarmedknockdown2
- Spam UnarmedHit3
I can drop not elite melees in 4-5 seconds with the above tactics. As far as ranged is concerned, try to fight in cities and make use of buildings and walls and it definitely helps to be a strong medic to self healing. I am a Master CH, Master TKA, and solid medic and do very well in PVP.
The upcoming "nerfs" to knockdown will help me far more than hinder since the only real threat I face is somebody spamming ranged knockdowns (although a BH spamming eye shot is _really_ hard to beat).

This is the kind of mentality that puts us down and keeps us down. If that were true, then the Jedis themselves would be owned by pistoleers. What? Oh, right, they use the FORCE. Ok, so we'll suspend reality just for them, but we won't let a TKA dodge a little bit of fire in order to close the gap. Right....
