Hello all,

I'm relative new to the TKA profession, and have a little experiance with kiting. I've been trying to think of something to help with kiting and wanted to throw an idea out there.. Hope something like this hasn't been posted before, as I've only been following TKA for a few weeks. I like to read about the professions that I'm playing and also just check in on other professions.

OK..so I've been doing some thinking on "the kiting problem".. I have an idea that I’d like to throw out there to my fellow TKAs… As I’m currently a Commando/TKA combo, I just shoot most things that run from me. So it’s not a problem for me, but I imagine it will be when I quit being Commando. So here’s what I was thinking..

Bolas…

Here’s how I was thinking they should work.

Damage:

  • Max:0

  • Min:0

  • Speed: 2.0

Range:

  • Point Blank:-100 @ 0m

  • Ideal: +0 @32m

  • Max: -100 @50m

Special Properties:

  • Forces target to "Tumble to Prone"

  • Stuns target

  • Delays target from standing for 1-5 seconds

HAM:

  • H: 30

  • A: 30

  • M: 30

These would be consumable weapons.. I’m thinking 3-5 charges each.. If any. One throw and they’re gone. I’d also propose that they should have a minimum distance of 32m to be thrown. If the target is within 32m you’ll get the message "target is too close" similar to trying to fire a gun while prone to something on top of you. If you want something under 32m you need to get Master Brawler.

It should not cause damage, if it has to because of game design then something silly to 1 min 3 max. It should not do a KD attack or dizzy your target.. there’s enough of this going around already. The reason I chose tumble to prone was that you could be on your face after having a bola thrown at your feet. But also this give a penalty for being hit, as you can’t use specials while tumbling, but you can still shoot.

The victim should be locked in prone from 1-5 seconds based on a random roll, and same delays as normal posture changes apply.

I added stun because.. well … you should be stunned after landing flat on your face while running.

This should be a cert weapon, somewhere in all elite melee professions. If you’re not cert, you can’t use them. I was thinking the cert for them should be right about where Melee mitigation 2 is placed. Seems they stuck Melee mitigation in the lest used trees. Also for the next skill box above you should get a small bonus to speed and accuracy of the bolas.

I tried to think of way to make sure this wasn’t out of balanced. I know the nerf herders are out in force as always, and don’t want to give them another reason to hate us, but I think kiting is a big issue and there should be a way to counter it. With the way I have it laid out I think it’s pretty balanced. It still allows the target to shoot, and get a shot off or two off on you still, but doesn’t let them use specials. Doesn’t KD/Dizzy them. I’d almost suggest this being counted as a KD even though it's not a KD, so when the target gets back up they don’t get KDed again but the TKA that’s standing over them now.

Anyone have any comments. I’m sure someone won’t like it, but please say why you don’t. I was shooting for something that’s balanced, and something that helps with the kiting, but also something that doesn’t make TKAs hated even more.

Never going to happen. There are too many complaints about a 15-20m lunge, a 32-64m attack will never make it out of this post. Kiting is something a brawler simply has to deal with. it sucks a lot, but I'm sure it sucks for a ranged guy when a brawler get right up next to them. What do most brawlers (TKA most especially) say? "If you let a TKA get next to you, expect to die." Ranged fighters accept that, mostly. Now, reverse that. If you are attacked in the open by a ranged user, you, as a brawler, have a good chance of dying. That's the way it works. You can do things to remedy it to some extent, burst run, find some closed or tighter space to fight in, don't chase after a kiter.

I just don't see how even the devs would give melee the same range as a gun, whether it does damage or not. Nice idea, though, but too unbalanced.

Well as I stated, it's not a problem for me.. I've got enough ranged skills that I can take care of a kiter. Was just reading that the devs are addressing the issue anyway so thought I had a good idea. I don't PvP, only PvE, and thought of something along the lines of a "trap" more then a weapon.

I was trying to think of a way where it really wasn't an "attack" but would slow the target for a few seconds, but make it a disadvantage for themelee person (this is meant for allmeleesnot just TKAs)to use it so it's not a weapon of choice. Which is why I thought of the tumble to prone idea, as this still lets the target still shoot at you while you're closing the distance. It counts as a KD so that you can't get on top of them and KD/Dizzy them again, and if they then /burstrun you can't use the weapon again.

Oh well guess we'll just have to see how the devs address kiting..
