I'm looking for some advice... I'm a returning MTKA/MCH from before the CU... I've read allot on how TKA works and nearest I can tell my innate armor appears to be working and I'm going bare knuckles...
I'm CL80 and of course the missions I've been pulling (on Dantoine) have been CL80ish... Against blue (CL78) and white (CL80) mobs I'm taking 140 damage before center of being and 70ish afterwards... I'm using pets from CL50-CL70...
Most of the time I'm getting killed though, especially when I get more than one on me... My understanding is a TKA is a tank now and not a damage dealer... In theory shouldn't I be able to tank and assist my pet?
As it is I have to send in my pet and hope I don't get agro...
Am I doning something wrong? I have two melee force senesitive branches (speed and accuracy) so far so I'd prefer to stay melee... Should I switch to Swordsman for damage dealing?
I love the perks in TKA but at this rate the insurance is costing more than the missions pay...
BTW, I'm not so interested in PvP, I'm looking at this strictly from PvE...

You say you are getting killled...
Are you using COB? Do you have any healing abiliites?
I would say some things to try are a PSG, foods, spice, buffs. Maybe pick up some medic and another melee prof for some more dmg.
Katarn Knucklers would help as well.

Even as a tank you need some kind of healing. No matter what kind of tank you are in this game you'll always need healed. Pick up some doc or CM.
Master TKM/CH/Medic 0040 will leave you at 9sp. Also get some stims and ruby beil.

You should be able to tank at least 3-5 CL 80's at once..problem is you wont be able to kill them fast enough before they wear you down...get Katarn Knucks or Nightblades...
How long are your pets lasting and are they doing any damage to augment you enough? If not then..you might really have a gimped template...
If you are going to melee soloyou either need a second elite combat prof or better pulling tactics to avoid multiple mobs...
Always keep you COB up...make a macro for every 25-30 secs and don't run around to much so that the COB fires on time...

This doesn't bode well... I can't shift my template too much cuz the FS stuff is eating up a few points and before it's all said and done it will have eaten enough that I won't even be able to have novice medic...
I have been keeping my COB up too... I can only afford one elite combat profession with my MCH and FS stuff... When I have the pet attack first he seems able to tank much better than I could however due to the design of TKA I always end up pulling the agro before the fight is over... His damage isn't too bad either... Should I look at one of the damage professions as an alternative then? If so what would you recomend? I only have the one respec and don't relish respecing the old fashioned way so I wanna get this right the first time...

Ouch....this doesn't look good.
The best option using MTK is the 0040 Medic. As RDX1 said you really have to have some healing or exceptional damage to survive as a tank and you won't get enough of a different Melee Tree for damage as you'd only get 2 total boxes of a damage profession so as MCH and MTK you have to have Medic 0040 (in my opinion).
If $$ isn't a problem you may be better off not taking MTK and just getting TK 0100 plus maybe Master Sword/Pike or Fencer or even dropping TK totally and taking Medic 0040. You'll lose Innate Armor but will get a real damage profession and still get Medic 0040 to help and CoB. This may be your best bet - depending on the $$ for armor.
Sounds like Melee and CH are your two enjoyable aspecs of the game so consider:
MCH/Doc 4000/TK 2201 Your damage output won't be good but that's not your point if I understand your statements. You'll have enough Doc to stay alive, CoB from TK, Master your CH and still get some of the other TK benefits (CoB, Power Boost and Combo Attack which is the best TK attack). Don't think you'll be CL 80 though.......and no innate armor but you'll live longer with good armor.
Personally I'd play with a Character Builder. As MCH you may be better off with a ranged profession like taking MBH with it and a bunch of Pistol or Rifle skills. Or even MCH, MRifle with Medic 0040 and switch your FS skills to Ranged.

Yes Medic is must with the TK profession. The key here is COB should always stay on. Also remeber that ur a tank and ur in for the long battle. Unless you pick up a alt melee profession.Try to stay with a low sac weopon. Between your becta shot // stims // COB // Spices // Food you can almost always.. stay alive.
CH is a good profession, but i belive a BH or pistoleer could assist the pets better. To me pets are ment for tanks and mounts. BH and pistoleer keep u close enough in range to the mobs ur pets are tanking to assist them with heals and calling them back to u to try to get the agro.
If you looking to go TKM and want to be a strong tank.. there a few templates that u can go . BUt almost all TKM have some sort of Healing abilities.
MY temp is TKM/ MSword/ MBrawler/ 0040 medic/ 0030 pikeman..
GL hope you find your nitch.

Thanks for the awsome advice... While I do like the melee stuff I'm thinking I'm going to try that MBH/MCH idea... Sounds like it opens some doors for great new PvE experiences I haven't tried yet...
Thanks guys...

Don't get MCH/MRifles, it's a disaster waiting to happen. I just did a regrind from that to MCH/TKM. Not sure if I'll keep it or try MCH/MSwords; but Rifleman won't give you enough defences, and you'll ALWAYS get the aggro because you'll outdamage your pets everytime, gauranteed. In fact, as a MRM I could pull aggro from anyone, including a TK doing his best to tank.
