Thread: Attacking while moving A how-to

I see post after post after post complaining about not being able to attack while running. While it's a bit tricky, and not very reliable, you CAN attack while moving. You have to have your burst run available, and you've gotta be fairly good at guessing network latency and anticipating the AI's movements. Here's how I do it:

When fighting a mob that is kiting you, hit burst run. This will let you keep up with them, but it's still not good enough to actually attack. You have to actually run 5-10m in front of the mob. Try to maintain this lead, and just spam your unarmedhit2. Gorax Smashes all day long. You may have to adjust how far you run in front of the mob depending on your connection, but that's what works for me.

This is by no means a fix for the problem of attacking while running, nor is it a fix for not being able to attack something because of latency issues. It's just a little trick I figured out so that I wouldn't automatically die every time a goddam rebil medic decided to run away from me.

SWEET! Now we just have to get burst run to cost 0 ham, and be usable every minute or so. Also, hope they don't kite you into another group of aggros.. hmm.

three things

1. they would hit burst run also

2. its only a temporary duration, it doesn't work for 1 TKM vs 2 novice ranged people or more

3. creatures are coming out, and there isn't such a thing as super-burst run

Tabcef - Like I said, it's by no means a fix. It works sporatically at best. I've never tried it in PVP, but I'm sure it would be just as worthless as every other tactic a TKA can use besides getting lucky and getting the first couple of swings in. I realize that burst run isn't always available, and that some stuff can out-run or keep up with burst run. I was just trying to share a bit of information I had to make fighting MOBs a bit easier for everyone. I never said that this was a ultra-super-mega sploit that would let you win every fight you ever get in. I only said that it is possible to attack while moving, and explained how I do it.

You don't have to be burst running to attack or do specials while moving. The key is to not let off the arrow keys while doing your specials. The client animation is what locks you in place. The client animation isn't triggered if you keep running throughout the move's duration.

Servers and clinets being out of sync is another issue entirely, and it will never be fixed because it would require a major rework of the netrowk code from the ground up, a major server upgrade to handle the extra processing, a major network infrastructure upgrade to handle all the extra data, and a full turnover of the development team so we could get one that gives a **edit**.

True, butit's **edit** near impossibleto keep yourself 5-10m in front of where your opponent appears to beso that you are actually in the same place they are without burst running. That's the main problem with being kited, is not only are you a few meters behind where your computer thinks they are, your computer is a few meters behind where the server thinks they are, hence the burst running to get ahead of the MOB.

The point of this post was to try to help people who constantly whine about not being able to attack while moving. I know it's possible, you know it's possible, we just adjust forthe server latency. I was just tired of everyone else who doesn't know it's possible whining about a non-existant problem. There is still a problem here, it's just not the problem people think it is. Whining to the devs about not being able to attack while movingdoes nothing, because we CAN attack while moving. We need to change what we're complaining about. If you present a more well thought out argument, you're more likely to get a well thought out response.
