Okay, first off, Unarmed is a fighting STYLE, not a literal term meaning "with no weapons". Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, etc all used an unarmed fighting style, but that doesn't mean that they didn't use weapons. For instance, a sword fighter is used to a certain fighting style. He uses his weapon to parry, block, attack. He stands and moves a certain way. And that changes depending on whether he is using a foil or a claymore. It's a style, where the weapon causes you to change your style.
If you look at the design of the VKs, for instance, they are designed so that the user would not have to change the style he is accustomed to. Think of brass knuckles. The person using them doesn't suddenly try and use them to block attacks, anymore than they would use their normal hands. This is "Unarmed" combat versus "Armed" combat.
I think that a type of glove/shinguards/elbowguards would be a viable setup, although I think for balance, it should remain kinetic, or be at a majorly reduced damage of another type. Let the other combat class have the flexibility of type, I prefer speed.

But they don't add any sort of special combat attack modifier...well, if you don't count the ungodly HAM costs....I need to get them sliced
